TLDR: my cat will randomly viciously attack my forearm unprovoked and I dont know what it means or what to do.
I have a 5 year old British shorthair that weve had since a kitten. He will sometimes attack me unprovoked. He doesnt seem to do this with my partner as much.
When he was a kitten it would often be while I was doing yoga and my arms were outstretched either behind me or under me in a plank or downward dog pose. Hed sit near me or circle me and I wouldnt notice until he suddenly lunges.
It would also be if I was sitting on the sofa with my elbows on my knees typing on my phone or writing etc. Its like he sees my forearm and just loses it randomly. He does it a bit less now that hes older but when he does its very vicious. He suddenly lunges and latches onto my forearm with his teeth and arms wrapped around and sometimes the teeth break the skin. Hes a very muscular breed and the only way to get him off is to pull hard on his scruff and if I can get a handle on him without getting more bitten, I put him in the powder room for a while to cool off. One time he did this to my foot as I walked by and I couldnt walk for a few days because of the pain.
There is no hissing or growling when this happens. Im not paying attention to him before it happens. Hes just sitting beside me .
