How The Test Is Performed
The test is done in the following way:
- You’ll likely be asked to change into a hospital gown.
- You lie on a narrow table that slides into the center of the scanner. Once you are inside the scanner, the machine’s x-ray beam rotates around you.
- You must be still during the exam, because movement causes blurred images. You may be told to hold your breath for short period of time.
The complete scan takes 30 seconds to a few minutes.

What Is A Low
A CT scan is a medical imaging test which utilizes a series of X-rays to image a particular body part. The data obtained from the X-rays then undergo computer processing to create cross-sectional pictures . A CT scan provides much better details of the anatomy compared to X-rays. A low-dose lung CT scan takes advantage of certain imaging characteristics of the lungs to minimize the radiation dose from the X-rays used. The low-dose lung CT scan is conducted to display any nodules in the lungs. How Is The Process Done
Getting a CT scan is not so typical however, the tests preparation might start a few hours before the actual test is conducted A special dye is used to detect the disease in the body. The dye enters the body and blocks x-rays enabling such area to appear white in the imaging. The dye is either injected into the body, or the patient has to drink it. For routine CECT, iodine concentration of 300-350 mgI/ml suffices whereas for CT angiography protocols, a higher concentration of 350-400 mgI/ml is preferred. The dose of contrast to be administered depends on the weight of the patient and current CT scanners allow 1-1.5 ml/kg to be used for routine CECT as well as CTA protocols. Doses up to 2 ml/kg may sometimes be employed for CTA protocols in obese patients. Availability of Dual energy CT scanners further helps to reduce the contrast dose because of better contrast visualization at lower keV images.
