Sgu Guides Students Toward Residency From The Beginning

Campus Life at UMHS – Caribbean Medical School on St. Kitts Island

When it comes to outcomes, SGUs numbers really speak for themselves. Of SGUs eligible 2020 US graduates who applied for a US residency, 94 percent obtained one at the time of graduation. And 94 percent of SGU students taking the United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1 for the first time in 2021 passed.1 These metrics certainly stand up to the USMLE pass rate and residency placement rate for students from US medical schools.

Theres obviously a reason behind these impressive outcomes. Ryan highlights the way SGU helps guide students toward residency when theyre still near the beginning of their medical education.

In year two, but especially in years three and four, the Office of Career Guidance and Student Development starts to work with you, he explains. Ryan adds the office is composed of SGU graduates who advise students on writing their CV, gearing up for interviews, and how to do everything else related to residency preparation.

Students can also choose to utilize SGUs Residency Advisor software program. It helps them choose appropriate hospitals in the Match, offering yet another layer of guidance.

Since getting into medical school in North America is so competitive, there are a lot of people who dont make the cut but who would be great doctors. Caribbean medical schools are experts at finding these people because the admission requirements are quite straightforward.

There are no cut-offs. The admissions criteria are intentionally vague so that they can fill up their classes and earn money. This is central to the mission of a for-profit medical school.

Ross University Must Pay For Placements

Since Ross isnt affiliated with any teaching hospitals, the school must pay for clinical rotations in the US. Many Caribbean medical school programs like St. Georges have this same issue.

Not long ago, Ross paid $35 million for rotation slots in Kern County, California, for its med students. I expect the vet school makes big payments to its affiliate hospitals for its students clinical year in the US. And the students are the ones who ultimately foot the bill for these paid placements in the form of higher Ross University tuition

Which Medical School In The Caribbean Is The Cheapest

The cheapest medical school in the Caribbean is the Caribbean Medical University with tuition fees starting from $4,000 per year. Please keep in mind that we have started from the least expensive program offered by this institution, which means that your selected program might be more expensive than $4,000 per year.

Ross University School Of Medicine Tuition

It can be a bit difficult to calculate the total cost of attending at Ross University Medical School . The reason for this boils down to how the school structures its MD program.

If youre already a Ross University student, then you know that the first two years of the program focus on the Medical Sciences curriculum, and the last two years are when students complete their clinical rotations.

Why does this makes things confusing? Because Ross charges a different tuition rate for its Medical Sciences and Clinical Clerkship semesters. Heres a screenshot from the financial aid section of their site of the latest Ross University tuition rates, effective September 2020.

The other important point to keep in mind is that Ross University follows a three-semester-per-year schedule . So to get a per-year total cost of attendance, you need to multiply the above totals by three.

When you add up all the numbers in the far-left column, you get a total per-semester cost of $27,283. Multiply that number by three and you get a per-year MS cost of $81,849. Multiply by two and you get a two-year cost of $163,698. The Clinical Clerkship per-semester cost is a bit higher but you wont have to pay a Student Service Fee or Education Technology Fee. Still, the two year-cost comes out to $168,324.

If you simply add these two figures together, youd assume that you would find a fair estimate of the cost at $332,022. But our average Ross med school client owes far more than that.

Clearly, PSLF has massive savings over refinancing. However, there are so many ways Maggie could save money, its not even funny. She couldve started making payments earlier, consolidated her loans strategically, or focused on retirement savings.
