A Few Words About Scammers And Back Yard Breeders Please Be Careful
Please be cautious of Maine Coon sites that are scams, there are way too many of them, some in the US and some worldwide. If it seems too good to be true, I assure you it is. Many of these scams are easily identified as Ads promising big discounts and savings, these are mostly fake scammers. After all, we are Breeders of Maine Coon Cats, our catteries are not online stores or discount stores, please dont be fooled.
I wrote an article about scammers and the red flags to look for, please educate yourself if you are actively looking for a cat to purchase. Please be aware that not all Maine Coon breeders breed their own kittens, there are some in Florida and around the country that actually just import kittens from overseas and resell them for a profit, avoid the risk of scammers and cat flippers and save potential heartache. There are also many BYBs or Back Yard Breeders who actually own cats they breed but are typical of poor quality, unregistered, or have poor bloodlines and many health problems, they may be far cheaper than purebred Maine Coons, as the old adage goes. You get what you pay for. Many of these are right here in Florida, all over the country and the world.

These kittens are typically not bred by registered breeders, but rather someone whose cat ended up getting pregnant.
Not only do you get to enjoy the personality of a Maine Coon, but the adoption fee is far less, and you get to save a cat from going to an animal shelter.
If you are looking for one of these kittens, you probably want a pet that:
- Looks like a Maine Coon
- Costs less than a purebred Maine Coon
- Still has the temperament of a Maine Coon
Finding a mixed Maine Coon kitten can still be a little difficult since even mixed kittens are in demand.

While there is no way to 100% know if a breeder is trustworthy, there are a few clues you can look for when finding a breeder.
- Open Dialogue
An ethical breeder will typically have an open dialogue between themselves and the buyer.
After all, they want the best for their kittens so will be more than happy to answer any questions before or after the sale.
- Knowledgeable
If you have any questions about the care of your kitten, ask the breeder.
A good breeder is knowledgeable of their breed and is happy to talk about their kittens.
If they are unable to answer your questions, you should be a little suspicious.
- Interview
Some ethical breeders interview the purchaser to gauge where the kitten is going.
For example, will the kitten live in a multiple pet home, and safe environment?
A reputable breeder will never just give a kitten over to the first person who pays the asking price.
If you go to purchase a Maine Coon kitten and the breeder does not ask you any questions about your home, they do not have their kittens best interests in mind.
- Selling Age
An ethical breeder will also not sell their Maine Coon kittens until they are at least 12-14 weeks old, and until they have had their shots.
If a breeder tries to get you to adopt a kitten earlier than that, ask if the breeder will hold the kitten for longer.
