Maine Coons stand out among domestic cats for their large size, majestic appearance, tassels on their ears, and a luxurious coat. They resemble miniature lynxes. Such a spectacular pet can make a wonderful companion if you learn more about the features and rules of caring for this breed.
Cats of this breed are large animals with powerful muscles. Average Maine Coon sizes:
- height at the withers 10-17 inches
- body length 35-39 inches with the tail

Characteristics of Maine Coon cats :
The head is large, heavy, with straight lines. The cheekbones are developed, the chin is located in the same plane with the nose. Volumetric vibrissae give the Maine Coons face a somewhat square shape
Ears are large, wide, with sharp tips. They are located high on the head, sitting upright. The gap between the ears is no more than the width of one ear. There are tufts of coat inside the auricle.
The eyes are round, large. Set wide apart. Pigmentation of the iris is uniform, corresponds to the Maine Coon color.
The neck is of medium length, with developed muscles. A fluffy collar is desirable.
The body is strong and elongated, in shape it is close to a rectangle. The chest is wide, the topline is even.

10 years ago I was introduced to my first Maine Coon through a good friend of mine. She had a beautiful, sweet, loving girl that inspired me to get my first Maine Coon.
How did you become involved in breeding, & how long have you been breeding Maine Coon cats?
I have been breeding Maine Coons for 8 years and have also been involved in breeding dogs for over 30 years. However the Maine Coon Breed is my only focus now.
When I decided to work with Maine Coons I spent a lot of time searching pedigrees, breed standards, health issue and all around best practices for maintaining a good environment for my cats and myself to live in.
