Are Pet Wellness Plans Worth The Money

The total amount on a vet bill can come as quite a shock if your pet is uninsured. The number one way to keep costs down? By practicing preventative care, according to veterinarians.

“Treating a serious illness can be 25 times more expensive than preventing it,” says Ari Zabell, DVM, who has worked with Banfield Pet Hospital for 26 years.

Arce agrees: “Regular veterinary visits and a commitment to preventive care can help keep costs lower and more predictable while catching problems before they become serious and more costly to treat.”

However, Arce and the American Veterinary Medical Association recommend talking to your veterinarian about pet insurance, too. “Pet owners should always be prepared for unexpected expenses,” Arce says. Pet insurance and wellness plans “can help keep a pet owner’s veterinary expenses down, particularly for higher-priced care such as complicated surgeries or cancer diagnosis and treatment.”

Currently, Banfield has a 2.5-star rating on Yelp, a 1.4-star rating on TrustPilot, and a 1.12-star rating on the Better Business Bureau.

The pet wellness monthly plan is a great option for proactive pet owners. This plan is not for critical illnesses or emergencies. What I love about this plan is knowing what my proactive spend is per month for shots, proactive meds such as heartworm meds, flea/tick prevention. It helps you keep track of your pets health, growth, etc. The portal summarizes your pets health. I love it! Emergencies, blood and urine tests are in addition to the plan. Read the plan thoroughly and ask questions. I highly recommend this plan to any puppy/dog owner. Its a great proactive monthly plan. No different than wellchild visits. Mary, Consumer Affairs

I Understand The Bad Reviews From Past

I understand the bad reviews from past. Banfield has gotten new staff. What a difference…so pleasant. Stacey greeted us and our pooch. She was extremely personable and efficient. Next came Josh Martin. He took charge and we felt he was very knowledgeable. Also, at our last visit we had Dr. Bevins . She was terrific also. It was a TOTAL turnaround.

Youll Continue To Pay After Experiencing A Loss

I understand companies have policies but to enforce that you still have to pay once youve experienced a loss only adds insult to injury. Its as if Banfield thinks Im lying. Were so sorry for your loss but were still going to charge you for the remainder of your policy or the amount of what services would be, whatever is cheaper.

Positive Banfield Pet Coverage Reviews

I have and do have my pets on the Wellness plan. Over the last 15 or so years and have had nothing but great experiences with the Vets and all the staff. I feel like family when I bring in my 2 dogs and 1 cat. I am getting a puppy here in a couple weeks and she will go on the plan. I dont know where these people have gone to get their sad happenings. But I drive all the way across town to go to the Banfield Clinic in North Spokane. Would not even think of changing.

We Have Been With The Banfield Wellness

We have been with the Banfield Wellness Plan for 13 years. Wednesday we had to put our precious Chihuahua down. When I called today to cancel her plan I was told I have to pay the rest of her yearly plan which is over 300.00. This is so absurd! Not only are we grieving the loss of our pet – I have to continue to pay for a plan till January 31st 2022 that I have no use for. This is disturbing to us.

Are Banfield Wellness Plans Worth It

Banfield Puppy Plan Cost

It really depends on several factors. First, some Banfield animal hospital locations are better than others ask your neighbors/friends/coworkers and do your research online to see if your local Banfield Pet Hospital is up to par. After all, the kind of veterinary care your dog will receive is the most crucial factor.

Second, if your pup is healthy and young and has finished chewing everything he finds, a Banfield plan may be all you need for preventative care. If you have a new puppy who is always in trouble, your dog is older with more significant health concerns but few pre-existing conditions or if your pet has chronic health problems, you may want to consider pet insurance, which covers illness and injury.

Another major factor to keep in mind? Pet emergency visits arent covered by Banfield plans, whereas they are with pet insurance. Pet insurance can come with a higher monthly price tag, but it could be your better option, in the long run, to truly manage unexpectedly high vet bills.
