Second Chances S.P.O.T. program makes the cost of spaying or neutering your pet more affordable. This program helps pets in need get spayed/neutered. It is open to all. We do provide additional resources to help those that need financial assistance to have their pets spayed/neutered.

How To Register Your Pet
| EFFECTIVE WITH THE DECEMBER 17, 2020 TRANSPORT,Paradise Animal Rescue will become the drop off and pick up location for Lapeer, but will no longer be doing the registration, paperwork or collecting monies for the transports. This was not an easy decision for us to make, but due to COVID and the loss of many of our volunteers we arrived at this decision.ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE DONE through the Flint website of www.allaboutanimalsrescue.org or by calling the Flint number at 810-780-4978. For anyone who has submitted a pre-registration form to us, those forms have all been forwarded to the Flint Clinic, and they are contacting these people to get them on the next available transport.ALSO EFFECTIVE JANUARY 2021,The Transport dates for Lapeer will no longer be on the third Thursday of each month but are being switched to the second Thursday of each month.Sincerely, | Times will be given during the registration process. |

How did you first become involved with RHFP?
When I retired, I was no longer able to pay the fees for spay/neuter surgeries charged by various feral cat clinics sometimes close to $50 for each cat but here were still so many cats left in the areas where I was trapping in the City of Rochester and in the Victor-Farmington area. I had also set up my no-kill haven for feral and homeless cats, so I had expenses involved in maintaining those cats and facilities. Presently, I am feeding about 150 cats at my haven and my own feral cat feeding stations. I was so very fortunate that someone suggested that I call the Friends of Ferals program. Am I ever glad that I did, because the program is affordable and very professional.
Why do you focus your giving on the Feral Cat Program?
I wonder if people not involved with feral/homeless cats can imagine the suffering endured by these wonderful creatures. These sad situations include the cute kitten thrown out when it reaches maturity the family pet abandoned by former owners who move kittens thrown out of moving cars free kittens and cats often used as bait for fighting dogs or food for snakes. The lucky ones find their way to feeding stations set up by kind people who dont have the funds to spay/neuter. You can imagine the population explosion that can follow. I know that our helping these people is often a drop in the bucket, but it is an important drop if it causes less suffering.

Fast Program For Barn & Feral Cats
Due to the overwhelming need for help in our community and beyond for feral cats, we have a life-saving program to help those felines in need.What is a feral cat? A feral cat is an untamed domestic cat. Feral cats are cats that are either born in the wild or were abandoned and reverted to a wild state. Stray cats are not considered feral unless you cannot touch or pick them up. Feral cats will usually run away from you when approached. Feral cats do not live in the house with human contact. This is a comprehensive package which includes:
- Spay/Neuter
- Rabies vaccine
- Distemper combo vaccine

- Flea Treatment
- Ear Tip .

- All feral cats coming in MUST be in humane feral cat traps.

We have feral cat traps that can be loaned out for a $20.00 deposit.

Basic Care For Pets In Need
PAWS clinics are open to the public to provide low-cost spay/neuter and basic veterinary care for pet owners who are unable to afford it elsewhere, as well as for rescue organizations and feral cat trappers.

Be Part Of The Solution Support The Fast Program
We want to help feral cats live out a healthy life. Unfortunately, these cats were either born in the wild or were abandoned and reverted back to a wild state. They are not adoptable as house cats. Since these cats have adapted to life outdoors, the best we can do for them is provide vaccinations to keep them healthy and spay/neuter services so that their population is kept under control.
You can help in several ways:
Adopt a Trap:
Feral cat traps are expensive and the shelter needs several traps to keep up with the need to loan these traps out to catch the feral cats and bring to the program. You can help by making a donation of $75.00. The trap will be marked with your adoption. If you would like to donate a trap, please donate below and if you would like the adoption noted, please note it in the Memo section of the on the donation link . Volunteer:
Help by volunteering at the shelter for the feral program. Volunteers are always needed during these programs to do paperwork, clean out the traps while the cat is in surgery, and/or to assist with various other duties during the clinic. Low Cost Spay & Neuter Pricing
Pet overpopulation is preventable, and it is the goal of the Humane Society to eliminate this tragedy. For fifty years we have helped decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats being born by providing low cost spay/neuter services to pets of San Bernardino and surrounding communities. Our full-time veterinarian and support staff perform over 8,000 surgeries annually. To make an appointment please call Monday through Friday. Check in time for all surgeries is 7:30 – 8:30am.
Pets must be current on vaccinations before surgery or vaccines will be given the day of your appointment and you will be charged a separate vaccination fee.

General Health Of The Organs
Especially if the stray cat that you have just adopted is no longer young, its a good idea to have it thoroughly checked by a vet.
Its because many health problems that tend to affect adult cats do not produce any signs and symptoms many of them do so only when they are at their worst and already impossible, if not difficult, to treat.
Just because a cat looks healthy doesnt mean right away that its healthy.
Chronic kidney disease this is the most common silent killer in felines. Its called that because it doesnt usually have signs and symptoms during its early stages, which is when its easier to deal with and keep from worsening. With CKD, up to 75% of both kidneys of the concerned cat no longer work properly.
CKD may lead to kidney failure, which can cause signs and symptoms such as:
- Loss of appetite
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
Its not just CKD that may affect cats, especially older ones, but also diabetes, pancreatitis, heart disease, thyroid disease and many others.

Is It A Stray Cat Or A Feral Cat
- Stray cats may be fearful at first, especially if they have not had human contact for a long time but may eventually warm and will be able to be picked up. Stray cats have the possibility of becoming pets once again.
- Feral cats however are very skittish and fearful of humans and while they may eventually let a caretaker pet it, generally cannot be picked up, and would make poor indoor pets. They may defensive of space and kittens and may even lunge in an attempt to bite or scratch, especially if cornered.
Just Before You Adopt A Stray Cat
The life of a stray cat and yours, too, will never be the same the minute you welcome the furry fellow into your home.
But to make sure that all the changes will be positive only, its a must that you schedule a veterinary appointment as soon as you have decided to take the homeless animal in for the safety and protection of all parties concerned.
