Purina Naturals Cat Food Recall

Which Types Of Cats Might Do Better With A Different Brand

Purina issues recall due to rubber pieces found in cat food

Purina Cat Chow Naturals contains several corn ingredients, so some varieties may not be the best choice for overweight cats. The hairball with weight control formula as well as the grain-free is the better choice. Some cats may also prefer other foods flavor, so if your cat is finicky and refuses to eat, you will need to select another brand. If your cat has a medical condition, like a urinary tract infection, or a skin allergy, your vet might prescribe a special food to eat while the condition clears up. We recommend following your doctors instructions and returning to this brand when you are able.

Purina One Grain Free Classic Chicken Pat

Pros

High quality protein source.Made with real chicken, cat owners are assured that their kitties get high-quality protein with every serving of this grain-free wet kitty food.

Healthy weight. This Purina wet pet food product is low in carbohydrates and high in protein. It is perfect for cats who need to keep their weights under control.

Cons

New formula. According to customer reviews, the current formula is not as good as the previous one, and the cats can tell the difference. Their cats seem to prefer the old recipe of this wet paté.

This Purina cat food in Classic Chicken Recipe is a tasty canned wet food that a lot of kitties love. It is meaty and comes served in a rich gravy. This wet kitty food product is great for weight management because of its high protein content. The new recipe of this product however, is not an improvement from the previous one at least according to some reviews.

What Should You Do If Your Cat Food Gets Recalled

Purina Beyond Wet Cat Food Recall

When you see that your brand of cat food has been recalled, stop feeding it to your cat. Then read the details of the pet food recall, as it may not apply to your flavor or variety. If it does, try to find a new brand of cat food with some of the same ingredients. You want to avoid upsetting your cats stomach by suddenly changing its food.

Take the bag of recalled cat food back to the store. You should receive a full refund. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for signs of illness in your cat. If you notice any issues, you may want to see your veterinarian.

Cat Food That Never Been Recalled

Purina recall

One thing I love about the Purina Cat Food is that they are somewhat free of recalls. So, yes, the Nestlé Purina PetCare has had its fair share of cat food recalls, but not on all brands. Some of its brands that have never been recalled include Purina Gentle cat food, Purina Beyond cat food, Purina Pro Plan cat food, and Purina One Sensitive Systems cat food.

Purina One Urinary Tract Health Formula Dry Cat Food

Pros

Helps restore urinary health. Cats who have been suffering from urinary tract crystals, blockages, and other related conditions have shown improvement since switching to this food. Some cat owners use Urinary Tract Health Formula as a substitute for more expensive prescription food. Others have found that it is a good cat food to use as maintenance for cats who have just recovered from urinary conditions.

Great value. Numerous rave reviews have been written by cat parents for this cat food product. Not only is it inexpensive, it has saved them money from vet bills and expensive prescription food products.

Cons

Corn. The first two ingredients of this food are corn gluten meal and ground yellow corn. These are ingredients that not many cat parents would like to see before actual animal protein.

This product is definitely worth a try if your cats are having urinary issues or have just recovered. Based on reviews by actual cat parents, this food has saved their cats from recurring urinary conditions. It has also helped them save money from vet bills and more expensive specialized diets.

However, the main ingredients of this cat food are not animal protein, which some take as an indication of lower quality. This may not be recommended for cats who are trying to lose weight. According to the brand, this dry food comes with 31g of protein per cup.

Recall History Of Purina And Pedigree

When you research the recall history, youll see that Pedigree has had several of them over the past few years. Most of these occurred in 2008 when there were salmonella concerns with its recipes. However, no dogs were reported to have gotten sick from the food before the recall.

Another recall occurred in 2012 when there were concerns that plastic had made its way into the food. In 2014, the company recalled products that were contaminated with metal fragments. While there were no reports of dogs being injured due to these last two recalls, its still concerning to pet parents.

Purina, on the other hand, has recently had two recalls. The first was in 2013 for a possible salmonella outbreak. No dogs were hurt, and the salmonella was only found in one bag of food.

The second occurred in 2016 when some of the wet dog food was recalled amid concerns that the food didnt have the correct amount of vitamins and minerals. In this recall, the food was not considered to be dangerous to the animals.

To Fill Or Not To Fill

Ingredients like rice flour, brewers rice, and ground brown rice are found in so many recipes for both cats and dogs. What purpose do they have in the food? What nutritional value do they add? Unfortunately, the answer is none.

The upside to the usage of ingredients like this is that they dont really have much of a positive or negative effect. They are there to make your cat feel full faster and therefore, help cut back on the amount of food that they will want each time. The downside is that the food they do eat isnt as nutritionally impactful as it could be.

Whats Bad About Pedigree

Like Purina and other dog food companies, Pedigree could use a few improvements. While the food is affordable to almost anyone on a budget, its also not the highest-quality food. Also, the cheap fillers and animal-byproducts that the company uses may not be suitable for all dogs.

  • Depends too much on animal-byproducts
