Best Homes For Balinese

Balinese are highly social cats so they do well in busy households where someone is home for most of the day. If they are left alone for long periods, these cats can suffer mentally and even become destructive. This breed is suitable for large apartments, houses, and houses with gardens but you must ensure they have plenty of room to exercise and plenty of toys to play with. These cats make fantastic family pets as they get on well with both children and other pets.

Balinese Cat Hair Quality

Balinese kittens los angeles

The “fur” orhair of a Balinese cat is as soft as silk, and even compared to rabbit hair due to its softness.

The Balinese cat like any other animal including humans, does shed but it is not a type of sheddingthat is problematic or of a concern. Due to its quality and of it being silk like, the hair of a Balinesecat should not tangle nor get matted.

How Long Is Long

The true Balinese cat is in fact a long-haired Siamese cat. From its beginning roots in being discoveredthrough Siamese cat litters, the Balinese cat was always seen and regarded as a long-haired cat. Though it’s long hair is not as long as other cat breeds, its quality is very different as noted above. Many breeders have argued as to how long a Balinese cats coat should be. Some say it is anywherefrom 1 1/2″ to 2″ in length with others such as Modern Standard Balinese breeders saying that onlythe tail should have hair and the rest of the cat being slim textured like the Siamese.

If we note the initial and foundation cats of all Balinese cats including Sylvia Holland’s, we noticethat the Balinese cat’s hair did vary in length, but all her cats were…long-haired! They had long-hairnot only on the tail, refered to as a plum tail, but they as well had hair around their body. Many breeders, seem to forget the above and do not realize that a Balinese cat is long-haired.

What has happened over the years, is that due to declining new blood found in the Balinese breed, some breedershave had to outcross with the Siamese cat breed, which is very acceptable and normal, but they sacrificemany qualities, including that of the coat quality and length. This can be noted among many different past and current breeding lines.

Hello Bill and Michelle!

We will send you some pics soon. She is a blessing to us. Perfect temperament. She didnt get sick at all traveling for 8+ hours home. Im quite certain shell travel with us quite well. Shes not nervous around people and gets into everything new whether its a box from Amazon or the wifes latest crochet project. Non-stop play or sleep. Not much in between. Plays fetch. Demands attention when she sees us for the first time back from the store or getting up in the morning. Has never messed anywhere. Shes always used the litter box even on the trip home. Yeah, we let her out and walk about the truck during the trip home at times. We couldnt have chosen a better animal. I love her lots, but Gina really has taken to her. Thanks for asking.

Old Style / Traditional Apple

These âtermsâ or classifications are one of the same, in which past Siamese breeders implemented them to differentiate the Siamese type that resembled that of the first Siamese cats that were imported from Siam or present day Thailand. These are used differently by breeders but they are supposed to mean the same thing.

These cats are fuller in body features, and are rounder with their heads resembling that of a proportionedapple, thus the term “apple-head.” Some people, including breeders, believe that the apple-head style signifies that these cats that were mixed with short-haired cats to produce its head shape and overall rounded facial features. This assumption can easily be proven wrong when viewing old pictures of the real and true Siamese cats that entered England and the United States in the late 1800s.

Meet The Balinese Cat

The Balinese breed is elegant in both appearance and movement, with a fine bone structure, long tubular body and an impressive long plumed tail. Their heads are triangular, with the shape running down from their long pointed ears to their narrow muzzles. The striking blue oriental eyes of this breed slant downwards towards the nose and give them their signature alert and curious look. Balinese cats are medium sized, ranging from 3-4.5kg and reaching up to 18 inches in length. Males are generally significantly larger than females.

As Balinese cats are closely related to the Siamese breed, they look very similar. However, there is one distinct difference the coat. Balinese cats boast a medium length silky coat that lies flat against the body. As these cats do not have an undercoat, their grooming needs are fairly low compared to other long-haired breeds. Their coats come in a wide variety of colours, however the face, tail, ears, and paws are always darker than the rest of the body. Recognised coat colours include chocolate point, seal point, and lilac point.
