Does Friskies Use Quality Ingredients
In most cases, no, Friskies does not use quality ingredients. They are often considered a budget brand, though you can usually find better cat foods for a similar price. This seems to allow them to get away with using extremely low-quality ingredients.
While meat is typically the first ingredient, it is typically inferior quality, like meat by-products. This is mystery meat. If the company wanted you to know what the meat was, they would have listed it.
Most recipes also include plenty of fillers, including rice and corn. Even their wet foods contain quite a lot of carbohydrates, which are not a healthy choice for most cats.

What Customers Think About Friskies
A handy way to check product quality is to see what others are saying about it.
If you just rely on company statements, youll always hear positives.
If customers are positive too, thats a good sign.
There are mixed reviews so far. Some are good and some are bad.
This could be because there are many brands of Friskies, and some are not as good as the others.
As youll now know, the ingredients can make a real difference. If a cat has an allergic reaction, thats obviously going to trigger a bad review.
Thats why its always best to check the label before you buy.
For example, reviewers complain about the artificial coloring and by-products that we warned you about earlier in this article.
So avoid any of that if you can.
But theres one review we saw that stood out. The person said their cats lived for over 21 years eating mostly canned Friskies.
Those are the two types of reviews that are out there. Some question the ingredients, and some say the food did a good job and kept their pets nourished.
What Other Users Are Saying
Many people said that their felines loved the flavor of this food. For whatever reason, this brand seems to make delicious food. Perhaps its because thats what they were mainly concentrating on when they began making cat food, to begin with. Cats of all sort seem to like it, including those who were described as picky.
Those that left negative reviews were primarily concerned about the ingredients. As weve previously stated, theyre all pretty low-quality. Most of this brands food contains artificial ingredients, low-quality filler, and poor meat choices. Many people were disappointed by the quality.
Some were also upset that the price fluctuated so much. It made it difficult for them to budget their cat food, as there was no telling what the price would end up being at any particular month. There were also reports of cats becoming sick after eating this recipe. However, we cannot figure out if that is because of the recipe itself or because the owners incorrectly switched the cat over to the new diet. Even very high-quality cat foods can cause problems if the cats diet is suddenly switched.
It also seems that the batch numbers arent the batch numbers at all, but facility or processing numbers. Either way, there is no definite conclusion regarding these numbers at this time.

Heres an example of a photo that was shared on Facebook:
Many recent consumer reviews on ConsumerAffairs.com have alleged serious problems, and public petitions have been started online to make Purina recall the tainted Friskies cat food.

Is There A Nationwide Shortage Of Cat Food
The reports of a canned cat food shortage aren’t new and pet owners have been complaining about it for months. As with other food product shortages, the global supply chain woes are at play in the canned cat food shortage as well.
Also, a shortage of packaging materials has made things complicated for canned cat food companies. The driver shortage means that when companies produce products, it takes longer than usual to reach retail stores. Finally, as we saw in the initial days of the COVID-19 pandemic, people seem to be hoarding essential supplies.
While thats the usual consumer behavior, especially because a lot of people couldn’t during the lockdowns in 2020, it puts pressure on the food shortage situation.
This cat food shortage is getting insanely old. Its been MONTHS of searching and searching for food for my fur kids. And of course my kids have to be picky as hell so I cant get anything else. And its not just wet food, its dry as well. Was hoping once supply chain

Is Friskies Good And Safe Food For Cats
Friskies is safe but it is not the best quality cat food. If you have a tight budget then it is definitely an option for you. But if you have an opportunity to buy more expensive brands you should. It is not dangerous or bad for your cat but in the long term, is not very healthy and nutritious.
While not everyone agrees that Purina Friskies is the best cat food in the world, it is safe for cats to eat. This cat food is made entirely in the United States under strict quality control guidelines and regulations. You, therefore, wont have to worry about your cats health or wellbeing at all.
There are, however, some products this brand offers that contain potentially carcinogenic ingredients. The formula that many of these cat food products offer is not ideal for cats due to the multiple artificial ingredients as well.

Mom to Evie, Emerson and Dexter
Rich H said:Local pet store told me today that they have a can shortage…that the cans used to package the cat foods arent manufactured in the US – dont know whether its true or not as Ive been unable to verify that independently.
EmersonandEvie said:I went to place a Chewy order a few weeks ago for some Poultry Platter. It was listed as temporarily out of stock. So was every single other pate 24 pack! Weird, but ok. I got a multipack of some other flavors that I was just hoping they would eat. Then I went to Kroger…no pate flavors except for one! Has anyone else had trouble finding Friskies pates?

Company History: Friskies Used To Be A Dog Food
In the early 1930s, Friskies began as a dry dog food.
It was sold in Friskies Meal and Friskies Cubes forms, with the latter being described as like serving your dog a 6-course dinner in one dish, with meat, liver, milk, fish, vegetable and chicken in crunchy, bite-sized chunks.
In the early 1950s, a canned version of Friskies Dog Food hit store shelves, and it was the worlds first canned dog food. The flavor secret, at least according to one advertisement in LIFE magazine, was lean red horse meat, and lots of it.
After years of soaring sales of Friskies Dog Food, the Carnation Company finally began producing a cat food in 1956. It was originally called Little Friskies for Cats.
It, too, was a historic launch Friskies was said to be the first-ever dry pet food made specifically for cats. Even the fussiest cats love Friskies, ads boasted.
A Hugely Successful Cat Food Brand
Innovations by Friskies over the years included:
- Friskies Buffet, sold in single-serving cans starting in 1967
- Friskies Bright Eyes, one of the first gourmet cat foods, launched in the early 1970s
- Friskies Kitten Formula, a calcium-fortified dry food in a milk carton package, rolled out in 1988
- Grumpy Cat, the internet-famous cat with a permafrown, became the official spokescat for the Friskies brand in 2013

What Do Customers Think Of Friskies Cat Food
Customers are, for the most part, happy with Friskies. People spend hundreds of millions of dollars on it every year. As one of the oldest cat food brands still on the market, Friskies has become a cat food staple. Many have been feeding it to their cats for decadesa tradition passed down from their parents and grandparents.
Not everyone is happy with Friskies cat food, however. On Consumer Affairs, for example, the brand has an overall satisfaction rating of just over 1 out of 5 stars. Complaints range from texture concerns to non-food objects found in cans to reports of illness.
Multiple customers have found pieces of plastic in cans of Friskies food. Between October and December of 2018, numerous reviewers said their cats started to refuse their Friskies food. Friskies says there were no reformulations around the time these reports started popping up. Its unclear whether or not the incidents were connected.

Is There A Shortage Of Friskies Wet Cat Food In 2022
There have been intermittent reports of shortages of several food products for humans and pets. Pet owners across the U.S. have been struggling to buy certain food for their pets. Specifically, Friskies wet cat food seems to be in short supply. Why is there a shortage of Friskies wet cat food?
About a month ago, the consensus was that the food shortage situation would get better in 2022. However, things haven’t gotten any better, and if anything, the situation is worse.
Friskies Surfin And Turfin Favorites Dry Cat Food
There is also the Surfin and Turfin Favorites Dry Cat Food, which has a good amount of protein, vitamins, and minerals. One of the big drawbacks of this food is that it contains cheese, which isnt particularly good for cats. It is actually dried cheese powder, so it is actually artificial cheese.
You will also find that this food has lots of carbohydrates, which not all cats need. This is a decent food to get if you have an outdoor cat that naturally burns a lot of calories running around.

Friskies Extra Gravy Pate
The Extra Gravy Pate from Friskies is definitely worth considering due to its high protein and grain, low-fat formula. It also has a decent number of vitamins and minerals that cats need to stay healthy overall.
This cat food does, however, have a lot of carbs as well as potentially carcinogenic ingredients. The by-product ingredients in this food are also not great for cats, but they arent dangerous at all.
