What Should I Do If My Cat Has Never Lived Indoors

How To Stop My Dog Eating Cats Poop? Or His?

Give her plenty of time to explore, leave her scent by rubbing up against your furniture, and learn that your home is a safe and friendly place to be. A cat who has never lived indoors may have never used a litter box before. Most cats will instinctively understand its purpose though, even if theyve never seen one.

Ask A Vet: Why Does My Cat Follow Me To The Bathroom

We all snicker at the images and videos of cats prying the bathroom door open or perching inside pants gathered around the ankles of the wearer when they are on the john.

Cats are curious and playful and we know that our cats like to be with us, but seriouslydo they have to attend our potty breaks? Your cat does not like for you to stare at her in her litter box, but she clearly feels welcome whenever you attempt to take some alone time.

The answer to this question may lie in who cats really are instinctively. Your cat is a predator driven by the instincts of a hunter. But because of her size, she knows that she could also be prey. As her guardian or parent substitute, she may feel vulnerable in your absence.

Cats are micro-managers. Everyone knows that curiosity killed the cat and when you slip into a room and always close the door, you are doing something mysterious. Your home is your cats territory and the bathroom is within the boundary of his sphere of influence. How dare you shut him away from his own territory? You might be hoarding resources or making friends with other cats. He can only know if he checks.

Why Does My Cat Get The Zoomies After He Poops

    Sharing is caring!

Often times when we think of animals getting the zoomies, its typically canines. But as us cat keepers know, our feline friends can get the zoomies, too! Cats are known by all for their quirky antics, but there is a science behind this funny scurry that our cats do that we appropriately call the zoomies.

You know how it looks, your cat suddenly starts racing around the room as if they are controlled by a crazy motor or acting like they would should they be feeling the catnip vibes. A lot of times, this behavior occurs after your cat has made a deposit of the #2 kind in their litter box. Lets take a closer look at why this silly and adorable behavior occurs.

Cats are also known to do the zoomies at random, and sometimes after eating, but most often we see this funny behavior happen post-poop.

Here are our theories on why your cat gets the zoomies after he poops

Why Do Cats Follow You To The Bathroom We Asked Scientists

Why Does My Cat Want Me to Watch Him Eat?

Cats are fluffy enigmas intent on prying love right out of their ownersâ hearts â after theyâve fed them, of course. Though there are so many unsolved feline mysteries, one of the strangest is their obsession with the bathroom â specifically, why cats seem hell-bent on following their humans to the toilet. A cat scientist and wildlife biologist tell Inverse the only way to understand this strange behavior might be to peer right into a catâs cunning little mind â and you might not find answers there, either.

If youâre not a cat owner, itâs hard to explain the situation, but hereâs the gist: You go to the bathroom, and your cat rushes in next to you. It then proceeds to watch you pee, like a fluffy little gargoyle. If you try to lock the kitty out, it wails and scratches the door like a maniac. Itâs a phenomenon science has produced little to no explanation for.

âI have two cats, and if I donât keep the door open when I use the bathroom one will yowl like her entire heart is broken,â cat owner Phoebe Seiders tells Inverse. âThe other I can only assume tries to free me because she, like, flings herself against the door as high up as she can jump. When I do keep the door open they like to come in and jump in the tub .â

Cats also might enjoy the âcool, smooth surfaces of sinks and tiles,â or even water, Delgado adds. This can make for some seriously priceless photo ops.

    Consistency Of Your Cats Poop

To know what loose or hard stool looks like, youll first need to know what regular, healthy stool looks like. The ideal stool should be firm and shaped like a log, a nugget, or a combination of the two, Waldrop says.

Keep in mind that the ancestors of domestic cats were desert dwelling creatures. As such, their colons are very effective at removing moisture from the stool, which means its normal for their stool to be firm, Waldrop says. I have a lot of clients bring in normal stool for analysis thinking their cat is constipated, he says.

Anything that is not formed is considered diarrhea, Waldrop says. Whether its liquid or pasty, its abnormal and should be evaluated.

Schwartz notes that its important to keep an eye on the consistency of your cats stools, especially since cats are prone to inflammatory bowel disease, which is a relatively common cause of diarrhea.

What Does Healthy Cat Poop Look Like

If you are going to identify abnormal poop in your feline friend, you must first know what healthy cat poop looks like.

Cat droppings can come in many forms, but there is a general description of what you should expect in a healthy cat. Healthy cat poop should be classified by normal color, consistency, and frequency.

Healthy cat poop should be formed and brown in color. Cats should also have at least one bowel movement a day, or at least follow a normal schedule in terms of their litter box habits.

Not only should their poop be brown in color, but the color should not change if their diet remains the same. If their stool texture or color ever has a sudden change in appearance, its best to contact your veterinarian for further advice.

Ask any cat parent and they will tell you they are yet to figure their kitty out. When you least expect it, your little furball bumps her head on the wall just for fun. How about the time she bounced off walls for 10 minutes straight? Or the time you caught her napping in a very tight area? Perhaps what tops the list for most parents is having a cat that insists on watching them as they poop. Since humans are wired to view pooping as a rather embarrassing call of nature, having the cat stare at them during the act can be very concerning. Why does your cat watch you poop? Well find out shortly.

    Sausage Shaped & Slightly Firm

Why Does Your Cat Pee Out of the Litter Box?

Sausage shaped stool that has the consistency of soft playdough is a sign of a healthy digestive system.

This often means that your cat is responding well to their daily diet, and are likely free of any intestinal parasites that cause diarrhea.

This stool should be brown in color, and remain consistent in texture and color as long as their diet remains the same. Litter will also stick to this form of cat poop, as each passing will contain some moisture.

What To Do If Your Cat Has Bloody Stool

You should contact your vet if your cat’s bowel movements are abnormal for a few days, even if you don’t see blood in the stool. Dealing with the GI problem can prevent blood from appearing in the stool.

If your cat’s poop has been normal and you see some blood one time, watch your cat closely for the next day or two. If your cat shows any signs of illness or you see blood again the next day, then it’s time to visit your vet.

If your cat has had diarrhea for a day or two, contact your vet to determine the cause of diarrhea and to help resolve it. This applies whether or not you see blood.

If your cat has not had a bowel movement in a couple of days, you should contact your vet. If you see your cat straining to defecate, this is also a sign of constipation. Your vet can help relieve your cat’s discomfort and may be able to determine the cause of constipation. Keeping your cat on a healthy diet high in fiber can help prevent constipation and may relieve the condition as it starts. However, once you notice straining and blood, it has probably been long enough that veterinary care is needed.

Make sure you follow your vet’s advice for routine parasite screening. This is usually recommended about once a year but should be done more often if your cat has abnormal stools. This is especially important if your cat ever goes outdoors.

Why Is Cleaning The Litter Box Essential

A clean litter box is something that cats love. Who doesnt? Even we want our toilet area cleaned when we use it, right? Animals are no different, especially cats. Their sense of smell is 14 times better than ours, and a stinky litter box will surely drive them away.

There are two benefits as to why keeping the litter box clean is essential.

    • It stops your cat from finding an alternate location to do his business.
    • It prevents the risk of illnesses for your cat.

So clean your cats litter box as often as possible. This is so you can always keep your cats happiness at best.

A Bathroom Is A Great Place To Play

Bathrooms can seem like playrooms to some cats. There’s a tub to spin around in and toilet paper rolls to play with. There may be fun things such as towels and robes hanging on the wall. They might be able to roll around on the floor and play with the rug or bathmat. A cat can have a lot of fun in the bathroom, whether or not you are in there. Plenty of owners have learned this the hard way when they get home to find kitty’s disaster in the bathroom. Hopefully, you won’t have to deal with a worse mess, such as pooping or peeing in the sink or tub!

What Cat Poop Reveals About Overall Health

Why Does My Cat Watch Me Pee? Explanations and Solutions ...

Just like for humans, your cats feces can be a predictor of important things going on inside his body. For example, a cat with abnormal feces may be suffering from a digestive disorder or liver or kidney disease, says Dr. Alan Schwartz of Compassion Veterinary Health Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. In a relatively normal cat, can also be a sign of a sensitivity to the diet offered, as well as parasites, he adds.

Many times, when cats start to show signs of kidney disease, they become dehydrated, which causes them to have hard stools, says Dr. M. Duffy Jones of Peachtree Hills Animal Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. This can lead to constipation, but also should tip you off to get some blood work run to see if there is early kidney disease. Of course, constipation can have other causes as well, including anything else that leads to dehydration, intestinal blockages, dirty litter boxes, inactivity, neurologic disorders, painful defecation, and the use of some types of drugs.

Diarrhea can also indicate intestinal upset and inflammation, Jones adds, so its important to get it checked out. It can be caused by anything from worms to things stuck in the intestines, and many other potential problems, he says.

Should You Let Your Cat Watch You In The Shower

Theres no research or clear reason that could possibly answer that question in a negative way. Theres nothing harmful about your cat watching you shower, apart from your own discomfort of course.

Even though cats have emotions your cat doesnt understand shame or embarrassment, at least not as we do. If youre thinking of allowing this behavior, then remember to keep cleaning products away from your cats reach and any other harmful substances.

If your cat likes the bathroom so much you could even turn the room into a cat-friendly space with a few toys laying here and there. This way you could share the bathroom, without having your cat to actually stare at you.

Reasons For Blood In Cat Stool

Why Does My Dog Look at Me When They Poop? ð©ð?¶

There are a few reasons why you might see blood in cat poop. Some are more serious than others.

Diarrhea can cause irritation of the lining of the lower gastrointestinal tract, leading to bleeding. If your cat has diarrhea or soft stools, they may start to appear bloody after a couple of days.

Constipation often makes a cat strain to defecate. This sometimes leads to ruptured blood vessels in the lower GI tract. The stool often appears hard and small and may have blood on the outside.

Both diarrhea and constipation can be caused by stress, dietary changes or intolerance, parasites, foreign bodies, infections, toxin exposure, inflammatory bowel disease, and many other illnesses.

Dehydration can cause constipation in cats. On the other hand, diarrhea often leads to dehydration. Chronic constipation can lead to a condition called megacolon, an enlarged intestine.

Growths like polyps, cysts, and tumors can cause blood in the stool.

Many diseases and disorders can cause GI problems that lead to blood in the stool. In some cases, the cat’s stool will look normal except for the blood.

Watch for dark-colored stools that look tarry or resemble coffee grounds. This may not look like blood at first because it is so dark in color. That’s because it is digested or partially digested blood. The presence of dark blood in stools means there is bleeding somewhere in the GI tract, like the small intestine or stomach.

Why Do Some Cats Like To Stay Indoors

While some like heading out, others will be content to stay at home especially if theyve been indoor cats from a young age. Some cats need to be confined indoors due to medical conditions, while others are just happier living an indoor life. If playback doesnt begin shortly, try restarting your device.

Rubbing With The Flanks And Butt

The scent glands on your cats sides and the base of her tail are generally neutral in the emotions they convey. The message flank and tail-base glands send is like two neighbors with adjacent parking spaces: This space is closer to my house and that one is closer to yours, so lets agree that this one is mine and that one is yours.

    She Feels Safe Around You

This is in contrast to the above point but they kind of tie into one. Cats are mainly seen as predators out in the wild. However, in the home setting, the little pets can see themselves as prey. People, dogs, horses, and most pets at home are physically way bigger than them. Since your cat trusts you to keep her safe, she wont let you off her sight. This is especially true if you are the only one at home. Your kitty will hang on to you including staring at you as you poop. If you disappear, she will feel afraid and intimidated. On the other hand, if she has you in her grasp at all times, she will be fearless.
