Install Wall Mounted Cat Trees

HOW TO BUILD A CAT HOUSE

Build a wall mounted cat tree in the same way youd build a basic cat tree, using brackets to support it. Be sure the brackets can support the weight of the tree and cat, and attach the brackets to studs in the wall. Sheetrock alone is not strong enough to hold the weight of brackets, shelves and your cat.

You can also install a series of shelves or cat boxes on one wall, staggering them to the left and right as they go up toward the ceiling. Eighteen and 24-inch shelves work nicely. Again, be sure the shelves come with hardware or brackets that can support the weight of your cat and the shelves and screw the brackets into studs in your wall. You may want to cover the shelves with carpet to give your cats firmer footing.

Cut Out Parts From Plywood

  • Cut your parts on the table saw using the plywood layout diagram and cut list as a guide.
  • Rip the cleats and build up pieces to width and then cut to length on the miter saw.

Pro tip: Have your home store or lumber yard cut your 4×8 sheet of plywood into two 4×4 sections for easier transport home and safer handling on the table saw. The cut diagram provided reflects this approach.

Keeping Outdoor Cats Safe With An Insulated Cat House

How to Build a Heated Outdoor Cat House

Cats are certainly safest indoors. Inside your home, they are protected from predators and traffic, fleas, ticks, diseased wildlife, and potentially life-threatening weather such as below-freezing temperatures. However, for a variety of reasons, not all cats are kept indoors.

Whether you prefer that your kitty have more freedom, or you care for stray and feral cats, providing an outdoor cat with adequate shelter is one of the most important things you can do to protect them. The first step, of course, is to consider an insulated cat house to help them survive winter weather.

Though cats love to explore the outdoors, even the toughest of them aren’t huge fans of being trapped out in the cold, rain, or snow.

How Are Local Humane Societies Funded

How to Make a Feral Cat Shelter :). From groups that take care of feral ...

The simple answer is that it doesnt. The Humane Society of the United States is a 501 non-profit organization, which means that it does not have to disclose its donors to the public. In fact, the HSUS is so secretive about its funding sources that even its own board members dont know how much money it takes in each year.

According to its most recent tax filing, it took in just over $1.5 million in 2012. Thats less than one-tenth of one percent of all the money spent on animal welfare in the U.S. that year, according to a recent report by the Center for Responsible Lending , a nonprofit that advocates for low- and middle-income families.

The report also found that the average annual cost of a shelter visit for a dog or cat is more than $3,000, and that shelter workers are paid an average of $11.50 an hour. And thats not even counting the costs of caring for the animals themselves, such as veterinary care, food, shelter fees, spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinations, boarding and other expenses.

How To Choose The Right Design For Your Outdoor Cat House

So you want to build an outdoor cat house? Thats awesome! I commend you for caring about the furry little kitties in your area.

But first, there are a couple of things you want to be sure to include in your house. All designs are not created equal so well be sharing some really great options in a little while.

Build A Feral Cat House

Building a feral cat house is a great way to keep community cats safe from the elements during the cold winter months ahead. To get started with your feral cat house, youll need to gather a few materials first.

Materials needed:

  • Large Styrofoam cooler
  • Large cardboard box or plastic storage bin
  • Box cutter or utility knife
  • Black plastic sheeting
  • Straw

To build your feral cat shelter, follow these steps:

Place the Styrofoam cooler in a box that is about the same size and tape it closed or line the box with sheets of Styrofoam cut to fit.

Cut a round doorway about six inches in diameter in one of the long sides of the box, cutting through both the box and Styrofoam. Do not cut the hole in the center the wind will blow straight in.

Be sure to cut the circle toward the side and high enough so the bottom of the doorway is several inches above the ground.

Cut a piece of the plastic sheeting to completely cover the box.

Wrap the box as tightly as possible and secure all loose ends with Gorilla tape.

Be sure to cover all openings with tape to make the house as waterproof as possible.

Cut the plastic sheeting that is covering the opening as if youre cutting a pie.

Use small pieces of tape to secure the plastic and make a nice smooth opening.

Stuff straw into the bottom of the box.

When placing the shelter, be sure the opening faces the opposite direction of where the wind will be coming from. Keep in mind that the shelter is lightweight and may need to be anchored.

Tire Diy Outdoor Cat Shelter

Minecraft Tutorial: How To Make A Cat House

This outdoor DIY cat house is perfect for winter. Using the insulating properties of the tires from which it is made, it is sure to keep your furry friends cozy on even the coldest December night.

The video tutorial tells you everything you need to know, including what materials and tools to use. The biggest challenge in doing this DIY project is in cutting the entrance gaps in the tires.

If you can find a tire that is not steel-belted, its definitely going to make things a bit easier.

It is also a good idea to keep in mind that warm air rises. You will want to use this principle in deciding the entrances to the final cat house. It is generally advisable that entrances are on the lower levels.

Heated Cooler Outdoor Cat House

If youre looking for more of a challenge, this will be a good option for you. It includes both heating and light as well as a hard, secure shell.

I love that multiple cats can fit into it comfortably without having to fight for space or warmth. You will need a little more heavy-duty tools to cut the shell of the cooler but it really is pretty straightforward.

This is perfect for snowy and rainy climates as the cooler is both insulated and waterproof. The wind might be able to blow it around if it gets up high enough, but you can put some weights on the floor and either cover it with a board to make a new floor or secure it to the ground/surface with screws.

The challenge with this unit will also be teaching your cats that it is a cat house.
