Tips When Choosing A Breeder Or Cattery

Looking for a Bengal or any family pet for that matter is a huge deal. You want to be sure youre dealing with a breeder you can trust, and of course, you want a healthy kitten.

A few tips and things to do when looking for a cat are:

Speak with the breeder Buying a kitten is a personal thing, so you should get to know the breeders and speak with them.

Its not something that should take place entirely online. Pick up the phone, see if you can visit their cattery, do whatever makes you comfortable that they have their cats best interests at heart.

Ask about vaccines Vaccinations help to protect kittens from severe infectious diseases. Make sure you know which shots they will have had, and what theyll need in the future.

Ask to meet the parents You should always try and meet your prospective kittens parents. Not only is it nice to see their parents, but you also want to be sure theyre in good health and well-treated.

Guaranteesand contracts You cant skip on paperwork and legal T& Cs, no matter how quickly you want to get your new kitten home.

A reputable breeder will ask you to fill out a contract to protect both of you should anything bad happen.

You also need to be aware of any guarantees and what you can do if things do not work out for any reason.

Care Of Cats For Sale

Some of the care for cats is universal, but a few breeds require extra care depending on coat type, activity level, and size.

Feeding

Type of Cat Food

Cats are obligate carnivores, only able to utilize flesh, fat, and bones from animals for energy. Wet food often proves advantageous for cats because the meat content is high. Moreover, the moisture content is at a maximum level, benefitting an animal that is notorious for being stingy in its drinking habits. This is great for cats that are at risk of urinary crystals and blockage. Some fanciers still cite canned food as being bad for a cats teeth. However, the greater risks to dental health appear to be the malocclusion of teeth and genetics. Many people have turned to raw and fresh diets to offer their cats a chance at better health. It is important to understand cat nutrition thoroughly or work with a feline nutritionist or your veterinarian to make sure such diets achieve balance and are nutritionally complete.

How Much Cat Food?

Your cat needs roughly 20 to 35 calories per pound per day depending on his activity and overall health. Kittens and nursing queens may need twice the calories of an active housecat. Cats, unlike most dogs, can eat one meal a day. A few cats can eat free choice, and some thrive best with their portion divided into two meals. Kittens should eat multiple small meals a day.

Grooming

All cats need basic care such as a weekly massage to stimulate their skin and move oils through their fur.

How To Pick The Right Kittens For Sale Near Me

2010 Westfield XTR2 For Sale

If you find a kitten for sale nearby, you should take advantage of the proximity and visit. If the litter of kittens is purebred, try to see one or both parents. At the very least, assess how well the breeder takes care of the animals on the property. Even a casual breeder should have clean facilities, and the kittens should look healthy, active, and unsoiled. Beware of kittens that are too thin, sneezing, or have any nasal discharge. Kittens commonly have soft stool or diarrhea. Ask the owners whether any issues you see have been addressed by a medical professional. Also, check the deworming and vaccination schedule. Some kittens may have their first set of boosters before you take one home, but many will not. Rescues and humane societies are also a good places to obtain kittens for sale because they usually take care of the first set of vaccinations and administer a deworming treatment. Either way, figure out where you need to begin or continue with preventative care.

‘crisis’ At Westfield No

WESTFIELD – The inundation of abandoned and neglected cats and kittens horrifies Denise Sinico, founder of Westfield Homeless Cat Project, causing her to declare a “crisis situation” in the area and in the no-kill shelter.

She is calling for action from the community because the numbers of homeless cats arriving at the shelter are overwhelming, hindering the shelter from accepting more cats in need. The cat project currently has 150 cats in foster homes, aside from the many cats in the shelter itself.

“We have to adopt out the cats under our care before we make commitments to take more in. All of our adult cats are free to good homes. No matter how long it takes us to get a cat a home it stays with us until our mission for that animal is accomplished, which is getting the animal back to health and ready to go to it’s new forever loving home,” says Sinico.

Sinico says the Westfield Homeless Cat Project takes in and then adopts out around 500 to 1,000 cats per year. Ninety percent of those cats and kittens they take in daily are homeless, abandoned, neglected and abused.

The cat project is launching a four-day adoption marathon event, offering cats for adoption in exchange for a donation of any amount. The event will be held Thursday through Sunday at their location at 1124 East Mountain Road.

Normal adoption times are Thursdays 5 to 7 p.m. Saturdays 11 to 3 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 3 p.m.

Once youve decided on a Kitten of a particular breed, be sure to buy one from a good breeder. A good cat breeder is registered in a breeders association and breeds according to the rules and guidelines of the respective breed association. In addition to participating in beauty and performance shows at cat shows, this also includes health checks on their breeding cats.

What Makes A Serious Cat Breeder

Dilute Tortoiseshell

A reputable breeder is dedicated to their breed and usually only breeds this one breed. The prices that cat breeders charge for their Kittens mostly flow back into cat breeding. A profit is hardly achieved with good and species-appropriate husbandry. A serious breeder does not sell their Kittens to everyone but is interested in finding the right family for their Kittens.

Do Bengal Cats Make Good Family Pets

Im not just saying this, but Bengal cats are among the most family-friendly breeds of cat.

They make such good family pets because they are friendly, social, good with other pets and kids, and playful.

In fact, Bengals are much better suited to busy homes than they are quiet homes.

Theyre large cats and have a lot of energy to burn off. So, the more people there are to play with them, the better.

Youll need some good cat furniture especially if you value your own furniture.

But apart from a bed and some toys, there isnt much to owning a Bengal its the attention they thrive on.

Not many owners will allow them to go outside freely, so the more space you have indoors the better.

Bengals can also be trained to walk on a harness if you want to take them out and let them take in the smells and sounds of the outdoors.

If youre looking for an interesting, unique, and sociable cat, youve found it in a Bengal, thats much Im sure of.

Do keep in mind that all breed information and profiles are general, every cat has their own personality!
