**The Westport branch of the Connecticut Humane Society is completing adoptions by appointment only in order to best serve the pets in care. CHS is currently accepting online adoption applications for pets in Westport. Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received. CHS looks forward to helping you find your best match.**

Applications are only accepted for pets who are currently available. General inquiry applications are not able to be accepted and there are no wait lists available for a certain type of pet.

We are directly in touch with two women in Ukraine. Theyre both in very dangerous areas of this war-ravaged country, and we are not being dramatic by saying this is LIFE OR DEATH for them and their animals. Food is running out. People are abandoning their pets. These precious and brave women are staying behind to help however they can. While I collect and finalize information about one of the two ladies, we’re going to start fundraising for the one I DO have more complete info on.
Please bear with us. We have two translators, flaky internet, and war going on, so please understand that my team and I are doing the best we can in ever-changing circumstances with information that is the most accurate we can provide. We know big organizations are getting the help they need. We want to help smaller groups or good samaritans who will benefit most.
Our first good Samaritan is Oksana. She is in Mykoliav, Ukraine. It is one of the hardest-hit areas. She currently has over 100 cats and many dogs in her care. We have already sent her a test run donation and it went through without a problem. She got the money in less than an hour. She is in DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES. Getting her some funding will help her buy food as it is available, and continue to provide for the cats and dogs as best she can.

Munchkin Kitten Up For Adoption After Mspca Treats Sudden And Severe Illness
BOSTON — The MSPCA said a young munchkin cat is now up for adoption after a harrowing few months for the animal.
In late November, Dollie was a typical four-month-old kitten before she suddenly became ill. At first, she just was not acting like a normal kitten but then her skin and ears began to change.
Her family, overwhelmed by her condition, “understandably” surrendered her, the MSPCA said.
“When Dollie came to us, her ears were sloughing, and they actually did fall off,” explained Mike Keiley, MSPCA-Angell director of adoption centers and programs. “Parts of her skin were necrotic – the skin was dying. It impacted her extremities, including her tail, legs, and most of her ear tissue. We had never seen anything like it.”
The MSPCA turned to its network of specialists to help diagnose Dollie and save her life.
MSPCA-Angell West Dermatology specialist Dr. Meagan Painter said, “I saw severe skin sloughing and necrosis, especially around areas with poor circulation like the extremities…This is typical for a problem called ischemic dermatopathy, which is usually caused by a reaction to something in the body that leads to widespread inflammation.”
It’s unclear what triggered the reaction.
Veterinarians were able to save two of Dollie’s legs that were impacted, but her tail and one leg needed to be amputated.

We have also changed our feeding guidelines. All foster cats are on a fresh diet and our adopters will be expected to continue feeding fresh in their homes. After 15 years of feeding fresh, we have seen a dramatic improvement in the health of all of our cats and kittens. This is not a great change from our feeding guidelines in the past. Our very own Reilly has a store to benefit all his friends at the shelter! I bet you did not know, but Reilly loves to ReCycle, ReUse and RePurpose ! One of the main purposes of Reilly’s ReTail Store is to make sure the items the shelter does not need does not get thrown out. It could be items that were donated that we have no use for and other items that were just unearthed like a lighted Christmas tree! We also have volunteers or friends of our kitties who love to make things for our shelter to sell, like the popular catnip filled fleece mats. Reilly would love to have as many cat-related items as possible.
Reilly’s ReTail Store is not very big and is located right in the entrance of the shelter. If you happen to make anything you would like to donate to Reilly’s Store, let us know! Small items are best and maybe just a few to start out.
Items that are not handmade will be priced so they sell quickly and need to be in very good condition or new. Prices will be reduced the longer it sits unsold.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes.
