ASPCA took 32 cats that were in Kentucky shelters before the tornado hit to help free up resources for pets and families impacted by the disaster.

MILWAUKEE, Wi. More than two dozen cats from Kentucky were moved to the Wisconsin Humane Society due to the recent tornado outbreak.

ASPCA took 32 cats to Wisconsin that were in Kentucky shelters before the tornado hit to help free up resources for pets and families impacted by the disaster.

According to the humane society, shelters in Kentucky are overwhelmed keeping up with the number of animals in their care.

The Wisconsin Humane Society said many of the cats are available for adoption now, but some will need more treatment before they are ready for new families.

According to the humane society, there are several ways the community can help in the rescue effort of these animals: donations, fostering or adoption.

We are so grateful to our generous community your support makes it possible for us to respond at a moments notice when animals are in need. You are true lifesavers, the Wisconsin Humane Society said in a post on .

According to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, at least 76 people were killed from the tornadoes, including seven members of one family.

Beshear said all of the people reported missing in Kentucky have been accounted for and said he hopes that no more people will be found dead from the storm, according to the Associated Press.

Two Teens Arrested In Connection With St Louis Park Edina Carjackings

By Liz Sawyer Order Reprint

Police have arrested two teenage suspects and are still searching for a third in connection with a string of attempted carjackings in Edina and St. Louis Park earlier this month.

The juveniles are accused of targeting drivers in back-to-back incidents outside Lunds & Byerlys stores on Dec. 9. The first occurred just after 3 p.m. in St. Louis Park, where the suspects unsuccessfully attempted to wrestle a man out of his vehicle before fleeing.

Less than two hours later, the group approached and violently beat a motorist outside the grocery store on W. 50th Street in Edina. Three people were injured and one was hospitalized as a result of the attack.

The unidentified teens are awaiting charges at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. Their ages were not immediately available. The Star Tribune generally doesn’t name juveniles or those who have yet to be formally charged with a crime.

Local police departments have stepped up patrols in recent weeks as part of a joint operation between metro law enforcement agencies to crack down on a surge of brazen robberies that have spread to the Twin Cities suburbs. Many cases involve youth commandeering vehicles at gunpoint often in retail parking lots.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman on Monday vowed to ramp up prosecution of such cases, as communities continue to be roiled by the attacks in broad daylight. Minneapolis police have recorded at least 610 carjackings so far this year alone.

    The HUMANE SOCIETY of MISSOURI

The next time a dog is seen walking unattended on Belleville’sstreets, someone different will be picking it up.

The city of Belleville hired a new animal control officer towork for St. Clair County Animal Services, ending a Belleville AreaHumane Society contract that had the animal shelter pick up straycats and dogs.

“We don’t accept any stray animals,” said Susan Skinner, president of the board of the Belleville Area the Humane Society.”No Humane Society accepts stray animals. That is animal control’sjob.”

The Humane Society had conducted stray animal pick ups foryears, at first to provide additional income before donationsbecame large enough to sustain it. When gas prices to operate thepickup van no longer met the income from the contract, the citymoved to hire someone full-time for the position.

The contract officially ended March 1.

Skinner said that the state Illinois Animal Control Act requiresthat the local animal control agency pick up all stray animals andkeep them for seven days, usually to observe for illness oraggressive behavior. If the stray is deemed ‘adoptable’ after thoseseven days, they’re given to the Humane Society or some otheranimal shelter, or kept on animal control property.

When the Humane Society was conducting rescues, it was usingdonor dollars to keep, observe and care for the animals on itsown.

Animals taken in by Animal Control include dogs and cats, typically.

    Placement Of Surrendered Pets

The Humane Society of Missouri makes every effort to place healthy, friendly animals in new, loving homes. However, we cannot guarantee rehoming of your surrendered pet.

The placement of an individual dog, cat or other animal for adoption at our adoption centers is based on an evaluation of his or her health and temperament. Once we place an animal up for adoption, there is no time limit in which he or she can remain up for adoption.

Tips To Improve Your Adoption Experience

Adoption processes vary drastically from organization to organization, but here are some general tips that apply in most instances. Note that we’ll use the term “shelters”here for simplicity but it includes all types of rescue organizations.

  • See an animal online that you’d like to meet? Call the shelter before your visit to make sure the animal is still available. This especially applies for puppies, which are adopted out quickly.
  • Usually, you’ll need to get some paperwork in order: a photo ID, vaccination/medical records for any pets you currently have, possibly your vet’s contact info and a couple of personal references, and proof you’re allowed to have a pet .
  • If you need to provide contact info for your vet, let your vet know ahead of time. Otherwise, they may not release your information.
  • Many shelters require your current dogs to meet adoptive dogs. Your current dogs need to be up-to-date on vaccinations.
  • Some shelters require you to schedule a home visit to ensure a suitable living environment for the new animal.
  • If you have any questions about adopting an animal feel free to contact the PetLists team!

    Why Rescue A Shelter Dog

Because shelter dogs are full of love!

Is it because they know you saved them and love you harder for it?

I can’t say for certain, but yes.

Jokes aside, there are three things all shelter dogs need to thrive in their new home:

  • Love
  • Patient
  • Training
  • Older shelter dogs, generally 1+ years old, may have experienced a lot of trauma, which often results in one of 8 common behavioral issues:

  • Anxiety
  • Leash reactivity & barrier-related aggression
  • Constant whining
  • These issues are correctable! Your dog isn’t broken, they’re just damaged. You can fix them with enough love, patience, and a good training plan.
