When Bottle Feeding Kittens Becomes Necessary
At times, a kittens diet needs to be supplemented with or switched to a milk substitute designed specifically for cats. With especially large litters, you may want to give the smaller or less assertive kittens time alone with the queen so they have easier access to the best food availablemoms milk. Bottle feed the kittens who are growing the fastest at this time so they dont go hungry. Feral kittens under the age of four weeks who no longer have access to a nursing mom will also need to be bottle fed.
Do not feed newborn kittens cow or goat milk or human or dog formula only a milk replacer made specifically for kittens will provide appropriate nutrition. Talk to your veterinarian if you are concerned that a kitten is failing to nurse, grow, or develop as expected.
Feed Different Types Of Food
It’s fine to rotate through foods to give your cat a little bit of a variety and actually this can be beneficial to your cat. - If after 12 hours of fasting the cat continues to have diarrhea.
- When you suspect that diarrhea is caused by poisoning or ingestion of a toxic substance for your pet.

They Dont Have A Routine
Kittens need to eat regularly to support their growth and energy needs! And while some owners may want to leave food out for their cats all the time, having food to graze on wont help your pet develop a clear routine – or could cause your kitten to under or over eat.
To ensure your kitty is only hungry at the right times, create a feeding schedule and keep to this routine. Kittens of around 8 weeks old should be fed three to four times a day, reducing this at 12 weeks to three times a day – in the morning, middle of the day, and again at night just before bed time.
Keep in mind that kittens will often want to use the litter tray straight after eating so this is a great time to reinforce some litter tray training!
Feeding A Stray Kitten

Can Cats Eat Spinach
Spinach is packed with vitamins and minerals. Spinach also happens to be safe for cats to eat, with one exception. Cats that experience urinary tract problems should not be fed spinach. This vegetable contains calcium oxalate, which can cause urinary crystals to develop.
Blanching and slicing up spinach can be a healthy way to boost your cats mineral and vitamin intake. It is important to do this infrequently to prevent calcium oxalate levels from growing too high.
Should the benefits of including spinach outweigh the risks, you should be aware of the signs of urinary crystals. The signs to watch for are:

The Food Bowl Isnt Clean Enough
Cats are very clean animals who like to eat and drink from fresh clean bowls! If old food has been left in the bowl or their eating area is dirty, this can easily put them off their next meal. Be sure to remove any uneaten food after each kitty meal, regularly change their water and keep their feeding space clean. Using ceramic feeding bowls can also stop any food smells absorbing into the bowls.
Keep in mind that wider shallow bowls are best for cats as they dont like it when their whiskers are pushed against the side of their dinner plate!
