Stick plastic forks and knives in the ground, pointy side up.

Space the utensils about 2-3 inches apart.

This creates a prickly area that doesnt allow cats to dig. It does the same thing as the scat mat.

If you dont have plastic forks, you can also cut up and use a carpet mat.

Place it upside down in areas you dont want to be dug.

Or, use chopsticks and place them around the beds you need to be safe.

How To Repel Stray Cats With Water

Another thing that most cats dislike is water. If youre looking for one of the best ways for keeping stray cats away from your porch, then squirt them with a little bit of water. Keep a full spray bottle nearby so you can do it yourself, or set up a motion-sensor sprinkler to do the job for you.

This is such an effective method of how to repel stray cats that there are animal-specific sprinklers you can purchase. These devices sense the presence of the critters and spray right at the unwanted visitors.

As a bonus, it can be quite entertaining to sit on the porch and watch the cats approach. You get to see how fast they run away when they hit the area covered by the sprinkler.

If you prefer to stay on the offensive side of this game of cat and homeowner, start with barriers. If you have a fence but strays still get in, prevent them from landing on the top of the fence with the Oscillot cat containment system. I HATE CATS and am sick of neighbourhood cats that are always in our yard. They ate all of our fish, despite an alarm, and other animals and birds. I have trapped two cats, one domestic and one feral cat. the domestic cat was given to the council and had to be paid for to get back The feral cat was destroyed. trapping cats seems to be the only way to fix this issue but owners are not getting the idea or simply don’t care. since trap was used, cats continue to come back and I have chased them off when they are spotted – throwing whatever is available .

Unwanted Paw Prints On The Car Heres The Solution

Some of us dont mind cats sitting on our vehicles. Some of us worry about scratches or dont want to be cleaning smudgy paw prints on our windshields. So how do you keep cats off of your car?

Well, sometimes you wont be able to prevent it. Its not really feasible to attach an electronic device to spray a cat on your car. Any indoor device you use could fall off your car easily. You could spray your car with repellant, but that just leaves a horrible mess.

You CAN, however, protect your car from paw prints!

Car Covers

The only way Ive seen to effectively protect your car from cats in any situation is to use car covers. This just ensures that when a cat does climb on your car, he or she actually never touches your vehicle.

Other Car Suggestions

IF you park near your yard, you CAN use an ultrasonic device that covers your parking area. This will keep cats from the entire area. Please see above for examples.

Another suggestion is to use DIY natural repellents that wont leave a greasy smudge on your car. Thats IF youre interested in putting certain oils on your car, or lemon peels. Please keep reading for more suggestions.

What Is A Good Homemade Cat Repellent

A liquid herb supplement can consist of lemon juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, and rosemary extract mixed with a bit of water. This is a great deterrent to cats. The juice from a green orange and strong coffee can be used to make a liquid fusion. This is a great way to keep your cat away from cats.

Cats are attracted to the smell of urine and feces, so it is important to make sure that you do not leave the litter box unattended. It is also a good idea to use a catnip-based cat repellent to prevent cats from coming into contact with it. If you are not sure what to do, you may want to consult a veterinarian.

Solutions That Train New Behavior

Another popular way to keep cats out of the yard is to train them that your yard or garden isnt a fun place to hang out. This can be done with a variety of methods.

To be effective, each training method needs to be regularly applied. For this reason, I left a water squirt gun off the list. Its too hard for most people to hang around their yard day and night waiting for a cat to come by.

Oscillot Cat Containment System

How to Keep Cats Out of Your Yard

Oscillot involves installation of roll bars, also called paddles, on top of existing fences. When a cat attempts to jump up and over the fence, he has to grab hold of the roll bar which spins upon contact and forces kitty to drop safely back to the ground. Check out the Oscillot site for videos of the product in action. Like cat-proof fencing, the product is marketed for keeping pet cats contained, but can also be used to keep free-roaming cats out. Designed and manufactured in Australia, Oscillot now has a USA-based distributor for North America. Also sold in Australia where international shipping is available. Note that this product may not function during winters in cold climates if the roll bars get wet and freeze.

Use Texture As Cat Deterrent

Cats paws are sensitive, and there are many textures that they cannot stand. Lay down rough materials like sandpaper on surfaces that strays jump up onto often. Other substances that deter cats are aluminum foil, double-sided tape, and the underside of a carpet runner.

While these materials all work for outdoor areas, they are also ideally suited for indoor cats, as well. If you have a pet cat that keeps strolling around a forbidden space, lay down one of these textured surfaces to keep them away.

Cats Sleep Under Your Porch Or In Your Shed

Reason: The cats are looking for a dry, warm shelter away from the elements.

2 Quick Tips:

1. Provide covered shelter. Or, if the cats have a caregiver, ask the caregiver to provide covered shelter. Shelters should be placed in quiet areas away from traffic. Find tips to build or buy shelters at alleycat.org/ShelterGallery.

2. Block or seal the area where the cats enter with chicken wire or lattice, but only once you are absolutely certain no cats or kittens are inside.

How to Keep Cats Out of Your Yard in 2020 â The Barn Cat Lady

Not everyone wants cats playing in their yard or digging in their garden. Keeping the cats away from areas where they’re not welcome is an important way to maintain good relations with the neighbors. In the end, the cats are going to be better off if everyone is happy than if there is constant conflict. A number of tools and techniques, listed below, can be used to keep cats out of gardens and yards. Keep in mind that TNR will make cats better neighbors, too. Neutering means dramatically less noise, no foul odors from unaltered males spraying, less roaming and so less visibility, and no kittens.

Start By Making Your Garden Bed Repelling To Cats

Like any other animal, cats prefer to walk on soft soil. Thus, one of the best ways to make your yard less inviting to cats is to cover your yard with prickly solutions.

One of the easiest things to do is placing prickly things, such as pine cones, holly cuttings, or eggshells in your yard. You can even use twigs or broken wooden chopsticks.

These commonly available items make it difficult for cats to walk on the garden bed and therefore, keeps them away.

If your feline neighbors continue to visit you often, try placing a chicken wire mesh or plastic mesh vegetable bags over the soil.

However, make sure to cut the mesh in places so that you have ample space to place your plants. You can also choose to cover your garden bed with mulch.

What To Do When Cats Come Into Your Garden

The aim here, according to Lewis, is to get the cat in question to develop a specific thought-process: this isn’t the sort of place where I want to hang around. She believes the first step should be talking to the cat’s owner.

“It sounds stupid, but talk to your neighbor,” she said. “If it’s one particular cat and it’s suddenly started doing it, there might be a reason behind why they are being driven into the garden, or something that’s attracting them.”

The cat’s hormones might be in flux, it may need neutering or have an illness that’s driving up its appetite and it’s resorting to looking for food elsewhere. If that’s the case, it may simply be a case of letting your neighbor know the cat’s behavior has changed, so they can address the root cause.

It’s also possible you may be attracting the cat into your garden without realizing it, according to Lewis. She advises against sending “mixed messages that might include stroking or feeding or calling them in high-pitched voices.”

Author and cat expert Celia Haddon told Newsweek that anyone who thinks a stray cat is entering their garden should contact an organization that may be able to help.

“If you are visited regularly by a particularly scruffy thin-looking cat, talk to your local cat rescue and see if you can get him rehomed or relocated by them,” she said.

Contact A Local Shelter

Many local shelters can assist you with stray animals. Whether they come to rescue the animal or guide you on what to do next, they can sometimes provide helpful tips to get you on the right track. Many shelters perform what is called a TNR, which stands for trap neuter and release.

You would get a live trap or some other means of containment, take the cat into the shelter, and they will spay or neuter the animal. You can then release it back into the wild to fend for itself. It might seem harsh, but it does reduce unwanted breeding and behaviors, such as urine marking, on your property.

Cats Are Yowling Fighting Spraying Roaming And Having Kittens

How to Keep Cats Out of Your Garden

Reason: These are mating behaviors. Once the cats are spayed or neutered, these behaviors will stop.

2 Quick Tips:

1. Conduct TNR for the cats. TNR stops mating behaviors and ensures no new kittens are born.

2. Find more information about TNR at alleycat.org/TNR. Get help from local community cat experts by requesting a list of Alley Cat Allies Feral Friends Network members in your area at alleycat.org/FindFeralFriends.

Please remember: Do not take community cats to animals shelters. They are feralor unsocialized to peopleand therefore unadoptable. This means virtually 100% of community cats taken to shelters are killed there. Instead, community cats should be neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes.

How To Get Rid Of Scorpions

Cats dont like to share the spotlight, especially when it comes to food. Theyll get antsy when theyre hungry and can become aggressive if they dont get their way. They also can be expensive to care for. When you feed your cat too often, youre creating a food shortage and leaving the cat with less of a choice of what to eat. This is especially true with older cats. A good way to teach them that youre not a food source is to try one of these two things.

Plant Lavender In Your Yard

Lavender plants look and smell great, but cats dont seem to like them. Lavender and lovely smelling yard plants will also help to repel gnats and mosquitoes. Plant these beautiful bushes along the perimeter of your yard to keep cats away.

Planting the tall varieties of the plant can keep cats from jumping over them and into your garden.

Put Containers With Mothballs In Your Garden

While mothballs can be extremely toxic to both cats and dogs, they can be safely used as a cat repellent to keep stray cats out of your yard. You can place several mothballs in a glass container, poking holes in the lid, and place in areas that you want to keep cats out.

The smell of the mothballs deters the cats, but the cats are unable to eat or come in contact with the ingredients.

Wash Up To Deter Garden Cats

How to Keep Cats Out of Your Yard

If your visitor has a favourite location, wash the area well with a hose to remove the scent or urine spray. Boost your cleaning with eco-friendly liquid castile soap on doors, patio furniture, etc. Cats tend to choose the same spot repeatedly, so remove their previous claim to your garden to prevent repeat offences.

An Insight Into Cat Behavior

Dr. Jo Lewis, vet and author of What’s My Cat Thinking?, told Newsweek that domesticated house cats still have some of the instincts of their genetically similar ancestors: African wildcats.

They’re “driven by hunting, by going out in the sunshine, by exploring their territory,” according to Lewis. They’re also territorial, which means they’ll aim to “protect” their area by marking it with urineall of which is to say: it’s totally normal for cats to be wandering around in gardens.

“They’d normally have to catch 10-20 small prey a day, so they spend whole days walking around foraging in the hedges. It’s very normal for cats to be in people’s gardens,” Lewis said. “That’s the most important thing to get across.”

What do you do if you want to deter a cat from traipsing through your yard? Here are some tips.

Lay Down Ground Cover

If you keep seeing strays urinating in your gardens, laying down ground cover is a quick way to get rid of that problem. Sprinkle gravel around your garden, or spread out mulch, or even place pine cones around to prevent cats from walking where they shouldnt.

These ground cover tricks work for the same reason as sandpaper and aluminum foil cats cant stand the feeling on their paws. Any substance that has a bristly texture works as ground cover to keep feral cats away.

Plant Lilacs Or Citrus Plants

Cats hate the smell of lilacs, rue, pennyroyal, Coelus canina, and lemon thyme. Planting these plants might be an excellent way to ward off the cats and pretty up your yard. Cats also hate citrus smells, so planting some citrus plants can improve the look of your yard and help ward off cats.

If you dont want to take care of the plants, you could try spraying or diffusing the scents outside, but these wont have the same reach as the plants themselves and would be less effective than a cat repellant spray.
