I keep seeing on social media that people will never use Wondercide on their pets because they changed their formula. This freaked me out because I’ve been a Wondercide customer for nearly eight years. I have two bottles in the house now that I use weekly in the spring, summer, and fall. Will I have to find a new option or take the risk with Wondercide’s new formula?

Yes, this is how my mind works, however, five years of being a raw feeder on social media kicks in and I remind myself that I have to do my own homework. I’ve shared way too many articles based on the title alone only to find out that I was spreading Fake News along with everyone else. I’m not saying that people who don’t want to use Wondercide is wrong, I’m simply saying that before I toss out a product that has worked so well for my dogs and protected them from bugs and the use of chemical flea repellents, I want to know more.

So what’s the deal with Wondercide? Is Wondercide still safe for dogs?

Think Like a Cat

Cats not only need a litter box filled with dry, clean, loose litter to dig in, they also need a place where they feel comfortable. The placement of the litter box should be for your cats convenience, not necessarily yours. And, ultimately, a litter box that is used consistently by your cat will be the most convenient for you, regardless of where its located.

How To Diagnose Lemongrass Poisoning In Cats

Lemongrass poisoning is diagnosed by following the trail of your cats symptoms. Your vet will order blood work, a biochemistry profile, a complete blood count, and urinalysis in addition to a comprehensive physical. The vet will use these tests to discover whether there are any poisons in your cats blood. Your cat may consume too much lemongrass since it is so appealing to it, putting it in danger of having an intestinal obstruction. Hell order X-rays and ultrasound once you tell him what your cat has been consuming. Once your veterinarian has determined what is wrong with your cat, he will conduct additional tests to rule out pesticide toxicity.

Wondercide’s Skin Tonic Spray & Skin Tonic Oil

Please don’t spray me mom!
  • The Skin Tonic Oil has a strong smell. – The Skin Tonic Oil is more potent than the spray, so I guess that’s why the smell is so overwhelming. At first, it smells OK. I’d compare it to a weird after taste – nice at first, but then weird after a little while. The spray has a nicer smell that I don’t mind at all.
  • Shiner hates it. – Shiner hates to be sprayed with stuff. It doesn’t matter what it is, she doesn’t like it.
  • Lily didn’t like it. – My daughter has been complaining about some itchy spots, so I told her I had some stuff I could put on there. I used some of the Skin Tonic Spray on her itchy spot and she said it burned. I’m not sure what her itchy spots are from but I think she may just be a little dramatic. She wouldn’t let me use it again. My baby didn’t have the same reaction when I used it on her.

Wondercide Reformulated Their Flea Repellent In 2016

First things first, the two bottles of Wondercide that we have ARE the new formula. I’ve been using it for a year, at least, with no issues. Of course, some side effects only present themselves years down the line, so I continued to ask questions.

I sent an email to Wondercide to ask them about the change.

Hi! I’m interested in the change that was made to the ingredients in the Pets+Home formulas. You do have a response in your FAQs, however, it doesn’t tell me exactly what ingredients were removed/added. Or maybe it does and I’m confused because I keep reading that you added something that is harmful to pets. ~ Kimberly Gauthier

Hi, Kimberly.

Thanks for your dedication to safe, natural products like ours! We appreciate your passion, and are happy to elaborate.

Our Flea & Tick for Pets + Home product did undergo a reformulation in 2016, and the new spray is just as effective, and just as safe for pets and people as the former Pets+Home spray.

The original formulation of the product consisted of: cedar oil, hydrated silica, and either lemongrass or rosemary oil. A breakdown of all the ingredients in the new spray can be found here:https://www.wondercide.com/ingredients

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • Water
  • Ethyl Lactate

Why Wondercide Is Safe For Cats

How to Use Wondercide on Cats

Wondercide Flea & Tick Control for Pets + Home uses cat-safe cedarwood oil, which is properly diluted. It is not known to be harmful to cats or kittens since it does not contain phenols or phenolic compounds, which occur in many essential oils. This is important because cats do not have the liver enzyme to detoxify phenols found in many essential oils that’s why essential oils have a bad rap among cat crowds. But rest assured, Wondercide products made with cedarwood oil are formulated to be cat-safe and phenol-free. Independent lab tests verify our products dont contain any phenolic compounds, so you can feel good about using our Flea & Tick Control on your cats.

With a slightly lower concentration of cedar oil, these products are safe for most pets including dogs and cats! Simply spray the product onto your animals coat, making sure to push the hair against the grain so the product reaches the skin. Here, it will directly kill any fleas and ticks efficiently. This product can be applied every 2-3 days in areas with high flea and tick populations.

So Why Won’t People Use Wondercide

I’ve done some searching online and the only concerns I found are the following concerns:

1 Wondercide changed their formula so people are afraid to use it. I addressed this in an email exchange with Wondercide. The change to their formula was to make up for the loss of hydrated silica as an ingredient.

2 The ethyl lactate, which is sourced from corn, may cause a problem for dogs that have a corn or grain intolerance. None of my dogs have a corn or grain sensitivity. I’ve been using the new formula for nearly two years and none of our dogs have had a skin reaction to Wondercide.

While I respect that some people may continue to have concerns with Wondercide, I’m not willing to toss them aside. I am, however, happy to try other products as I discover them because I love learning about products that work with our dogs.

I order the clove free Wondercide Flea, Tick, and Mosquito repellent from . I like it because the scent is mild and I find it effective. I even use it on myself.

What Happens If Cats Eat Lemongrass

If a cat eats lemongrass, it usually has a catnip-like effect on the cat.

Most cats respond to lemongrass in the same way that they do to catnip. A nibble-friendly patch of lemongrass, whether potted indoors or planted in an outdoor garden, is a safe cat treat. Lemongrass essential oil, on the other hand, is toxic to cats, so keep it in a safe and secure place.

Lemongrass, in its natural statethat is, as a plantposes little to no risk to cats. It is possible that a cat will eat too much of it and vomit, but poisoning is unlikely.

A nibble of lemongrass will not harm your cats, says Dr. Fox, a columnist for the Washington Posts Animal Doctor. However, an intense craving may be an indication of an underlying nutritional deficiency or disease, such as hyperthyroidism.

If your cat appears to be upset when you remove his lemongrass, make an appointment with a veterinarian and go over the animals diet.

What Users Have To Say About Wondercide

How to Use Wondercide Plant Powered Flea & Tick Spray for Pets Home

We assumed he was naturally obnoxious and therefore purchased the Cedarwood “color”, used nitrile gloves, spray the solution on your hands, and then apply lots of it to your pet’s fur.

This product is not going to work like the typical batches of toxins that work the best, that’s what toxins do, and that’s what we’re going to see, including our pets and the US.

Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t carry the sample size which I ordered from Wondercide directly, and I wish I’d bought more because I like to keep a small bottle in my various packs and bags I use for hiking and going to the lakes.

I spray the house with Wondercide and the couple of cats are much more comfortable, I think they changed the scent a bit for the better.

We can use the exact same formula for indoor pest control as before, saving our budget $400, thanks to the discovery of this info in the Q& A section on the website.

How Do I Keep Lemongrass Off My Cat

You can keep lemongrass of your cat by:

While your cat is limited to the confines of your home, make certain that no other opportunities to consume lemongrass exist. Get rid of all lemongrass in your home.

Instead, grow cat-friendly grasses both inside and outside. Allow your cat to chew on these grasses instead of lemongrass with caution.

If your cat did not previously have an overwhelming desire to eat lemongrass or other dangerous substances, but it now does, take it to the vet for a thorough examination.

Your cat should be thoroughly examined and tested for everything from vitamin deficiencies to circulatory problems and even brain lesions.

After receiving the appropriate treatment for one of these conditions, one should be able to resume eating a more normal diet.

Keep an eye on your cats behavior and keep an eye on the environment it is in. If you notice it leaning toward lemongrass again, give it a small amount to chew on before moving it to a different area.
