Kittens For Adoption In Mn

Do You Ever Extend The 75

Animal Humane Society Has New Adoption Procedures for Kitten Season

If an animal is available for at least 60 days or we feel they would be better suited outside of city limits we have extended our adoption radius from 75-miles to 200-miles outside Minneapolis, MN City Center, or possibly further, a distance at the fosters discretion since they will be coordinating the adoption. If you are outside of the 75-mile radius, the guidelines are as follows:

  • Any post-adoption vet care that Pet Haven would cover financially needs to be done with one of our partners in the metro area
  • Any post-adoption continuation of already enrolled behavioral / training that Pet Haven would cover financially needs to be done with one of our partners in the metro area
  • The applicant will need to come to the metro area for an in-person meet and greet with foster parent and dog or cat for dogs, if there is another dog in the applicants home, dog will need to accompany the owner to the meet and greet in the metro area
  • Home visit needs to be completed either by video chat or through another rescue in your area
  • Adopters will need to come to the metro area or a location comfortable for the foster to pick up their new family member if the adoption process is completed/approved.
  • I Dont Live In The Twin Cities Can I Still Adopt From Pet Haven

We are committed to providing post-adoption services that include our health guarantee and behavior counseling. Therefore, we prefer an animals new home to be within reach of our volunteers and veterinary clinics. For this reason, Pet Haven prefers to limit its animal placements to locations within 75 miles of the Twin Cities but we will consider applications up to 200 miles of the Twin Cities. Adopters must be willing to drive to locations in the Twin Cities.

    Lost And Found Animals

We all hope our beloved pet never is on the missing list but unfortunately it can and does happen. Someone leaves a door or gate open, the dog runs off when it was only suppose to be doing it’s “business” and so on.

The first thing everyone should have on their pet is an id tag with your current phone number on it. A city license tag or a rabies tag can be next to worthless if an animal is found after hours. Having your pet micro chipped can be beneficial but it is not a guarantee you will get your pet back. As an owner you will need to keep the chip updated with your current phone number. If a pet has a change of owners that will also need to be changed with chip company. Then there is the issue of getting the pet scanned. Keep in mind not all animals brought into a shelter can be scanned due to temperament issues.

If you have lost your pet or found someone else’s pet here is what you should do.

    • Contact your local shelters with your information. If you have found a pet contact your local law enforcement to determine if you are in a contracted impound area. If you are the animal control officer will transport animal to HART.
    • Putting lost and found information on social media has it’s pros and cons. It may return your pet to you but it also may give the finder all the information about your pet. And they may keep it.
    • It is best to bring a found pet to a shelter so the owner can pick it up.

Promote Efforts To Reduce Animal Overpopulation

We cant adopt our way out of pet overpopulation. We address homelessness at the root through our spay/neuter initiatives. We were the first organization in Minnesota to require spay/neuter prior to adoption and have continued to support efforts to reduce overpopulation through programs and grants. More than 5,000 animals have been altered through our grant program.

How Much Does It Cost To Adopt

Adoption fees vary depending on the age and breed of the animal. Every pet placed through Pet Haven is spayed or neutered, is up-to-date on vaccinations, has a microchip ID, and has been examined by a veterinarian to make sure it is healthy at the time of adoption. You can view our adoption fees here.

    Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Provide Loving Foster Families To Each Animal

All our animals are in loving foster homes, not in a shelter. Our foster program benefits both the animals in our care and their future families. Our foster families prepare animals for adoption by giving them a chance to live in a home where they can fully express their personality, work to overcome fears, recover from trauma, and receive needed training, giving them a better chance at a forever home.

    Why Adopt From Pet Haven

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!
