Both the parents and kittens in these mills are abused and neglected, creating potential behavioral and health problems for future adopters. Kittens from kitten mills often have untreated illnesses, physical deformities, infections, and worms.
The best way to avoid supporting kitten mills is by choosing a reputable breeder for your Ragdoll cat. Kitten mills are about quick turnover without regard for the health and wellbeing of the cats and kittens. Look for breeders that offer health guarantees, valid pedigrees, and records of veterinary care. Most reputable breeders wont ship kittens and wont allow kittens to go to their new owners before 10 weeks of age, but the longer you can wait, the better.
When it comes down to it, follow your gut. A breeder that shows care and compassion for their cats, transparency with their processes, and strict guidelines for breeding rights, spaying and neutering, and veterinary care is likely a reputable breeder.
