Petco CEO Sees Boom in Pet Adoptions Amid Covid Pandemic

Vetco Clinics offers preventative veterinary medicine through testing and administering vaccination schedules. They do not charge an exam fee, but do provide a visual checkup of your dog or cat during your appointment.

Your pet will have their ears, eyes, and mouth checked while you discuss their history and any issues they may be having. Depending on your pets health at the time of visit, they will receive any needed testing or vaccines after their checkup. If your pet is sick or injured, the Vetco vet may decline to work with your pet and suggest seeing a full service veterinarian.

Vetco also writes prescriptions for your pets heartworm, tick, and flea medication. They can fill this onsite or you can take the written prescription to your preferred pharmacy or have it filled online or at your normal vets office.

Does Cat Insurance Cover Vaccinations

Most pet insurance policies dont cover vaccinations or other preventative medicine without purchasing a rider . This means your premium will go up, and they may only cover the core vaccines and not any additional ones, Dr. Bonk said. Be sure to read the fine print on any pet insurance policy before purchasing.

While pet insurance policies usually dont cover vaccines, having pet insurance can help tremendously if your cat were to have an emergency and require surgery.

Pet insurance can also help older cats who might be diagnosed with a disease and require special medical care.

Cat vaccinations are an important part of owning a happy and healthy cat. Always consult your veterinarian to make sure youre keeping up with your cat’s shots and that shes getting the ones she needs.

Puppy And Dog Vaccination Package

For $75, your puppy or dog can get the following vaccinations:

  • Distemper/Parvo combo
  • Round/hook dewormer

For $20 more, the Vetco veterinarians will also conduct a heartworm test. If you add another $10, they can upgrade the heartworm test to a 4DX test to include tick diseases.

Additional upgrades can be added to the vaccination package if needed:

  • Rattlesnake: $25

When adding up these individual vaccinations plus the cost of an office visit , you could save well over $100 in just one visit at Vetco compared to the vets office.

Of course, if you have pet insurance with a wellness plan, theres a chance you can get reimbursed for part or all of your vaccination costs on top of the savings youre already getting by using the Vetco clinic services.

Pet wellness plans are designed to help with the cost of preventative and routine care, which includes vet exams and vaccination costs.

Petco Love Gifts Community With Free Pet Vaccines

Sentry PurrScriptions Plus Flea & Tick Drops for Cats

As Part of Petco Loves Initiative to Provide 1 Million Free Pet Vaccines, Planned PEThood of GA Will Distribute Free Pet Vaccines to all patients through the end of February. This includes patients here for surgery, vaccine clinics, or our new Wellness Clinic.

The free vaccines are made possible through Petco Loves new national vaccination initiative, which is providing 1 million free pet vaccines to its existing animal welfare partners, including Planned PEThood of GA for family pets in need.

Parvovirus and distemper in dogs, and panleukopenia in cats, are some of the most prevalent deadly diseases impacting pets that are preventable with a simple vaccine. An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pet to a veterinarian annually for preventative care. To address this critical need, we are partnering with Petco Love to make pet vaccines free and accessible in an effort to ensure the health and wellness of our beloved pets.

Planned PEThood of GA aims to vaccinate 3,000 pets through this effort. In addition to offering it for free to animals visiting their Duluth clinic, they are hosting a free community outreach event in Habersham County on February 26th to aid a heavily underserved area.

Thanks to Petco Love, we can offer these important vaccines at no cost to pet owners, said Lauren Frost, Development Coordinator. We urge community members to take advantage of this free resource and ensure the health and wellness of our communitys pets.

Vetco Low Cost Pet Vaccinations For Cats

Theres only one combo shot package for felines at Vetco. For $75, it covers the FVRCP vaccine feline leukemia and the same dewormer as for canines.

While paying this fee might be a financial burden, in the end, its a small price to pay for the health of your pet.

Consider that the FVRCP offers protection against three deadly viruses.

One of them is the result of the common feline herpes virus. Another disease this combo shot protects from is distemper.

Distemper is very easily spread amongst cats.

As for feline leukemia, its the leading cause of death via disease. It kills about 85% of cats that come down with disease.

If your cat has received all its shots but needs, say, a booster for feline leukemia, Vetco offers low cost pet vaccinations for these as well.

For example, a stand-alone feline leukemia shot is only $41.

Low Cost Pet Vaccinations At Petco

Petcos Unleashed brand of stores is basically a Petco without any animals. Or, more specifically, live ones. .

The reason Petco introduced this concept? To focus on customer service instead of just the pets.

Unleashed is essentially a much smaller Petco with the look and feel of a mom-and-pop pet-supply store.

But there is one service Unleashed offers that is pet-centric: low cost pet vaccinations.

Unleashed offers times when licensed veterinarians visit the store. The vets offer affordable preventive services.

Dont have an Unleashed store in your area? Petco still offers shots in their stores, through its registered Vetco veterinarians at Petco program.

And heres how much it costs for vaccines there.

The Healthy Dog/Puppy program is currently $79 in our area. This includes protection against the following: distemper & Parvo Bordetella Lepto, which is optional and, if necessary a round/hook dewormer.

For an extra $20 you can get a heartworm test. And for an additional $10 on top of the extra $20, your pet can get checked for tick-borne diseases.

So for about $100, you can have piece of mind to protect your dog.

There are even more add-ons you can get for your dog or cat. Lets finish with offerings for canines first.

For an extra $42, you can have your pet vaccinated against rattlesnake bites.

Live in, say, Chicago? Then, of course, you can skip that one. But if you live in Tucson, or elsewhere in the Southwest, you might want to consider it.

Low Cost Pet Vaccinations At Walgreens Petco And More

You dont have to pay the full price at a veterinarians office to take care of your dog or cat. Instead, consider these low cost pet vaccinations options at Walgreens and Petco.

Everything seems to cost more these days: utilities, gas, rent, cable, internet, food, and more. At the end of the month, its increasingly difficult to have any money left over.

For those who struggle financially, owning a pet adds to the financial burden. Especially, when you first get a dog or cat. Not only do you have to know how to get dog smell out of your carpet, you have to pay for vet care.

Going to the vet can cost deeply when you have a puppy or kitten. While, there is such a thing as pet insurance, there are two problems with it.

Firstly, its not free. Do you have to pay out of pocket for your own health care? Then you might not have any funds to pay for a health insurance premium for your furry best friend.

Secondly, traditional pet insurance policies most often only cover illness and injury. Most plans do not cover preventive measures such as immunizations.

The good news is, you dont have to go to an expensive veterinarian to protect your four-legged family member.

Which Cat Shots Should You Get

When you are researching the cost to vaccinate a cat, its important to understand the full panel of recommended feline shots and what they protect against.

However, a vaccination schedule is going to look different based on a few factors, including:

  • Lifestyle, such as whether they are an indoor or outdoor cat

Unable to afford all of their shots? Thats okay. It still protects your cat to get some shots.

So, lets take a look at the core cat vaccines.

Walgreens, also offers affordable shots for dogs and cats.

In partnership with the giant discount drug store is ShotVet. The ShotVet program manages the Walgreens Pet Vaccine Clinic on weekends.

There are no exam fees. Another advantage to this program is that you dont have to make an appointment.

Like the Vetco program, the people administering the shots are professional veterinarians.

Essentially, the reason why these chain stores can offer such affordable vaccinations is they cut out the middleman. The vaccinations come straight from the manufacturer.

How Much Do Dog Shots Cost At Petco

Free pet vaccines coming your way at Memphis Animal Services (MAS)

The total cost of getting you shots done at Petco depends on which shots your dog needs. Generally, the cost of routine shots at Petco will range from $15 to $35 per shot.

Rabies vaccines are required by law in many states, so the cost of this particular shot is usually a bit higher. For puppies and kittens, additional shots such as for leukemia, Bordetella , and Lyme disease may also be necessary and will increase the cost as you have to tack on more shots.

If your pet needs a more specialized vaccine or other medical procedure , the price will be higher and must be done at a veterinary clinic rather than a pet store like Petco.

Why Do Cats Need Vaccinations

Vaccinations are important for your cat because they help prevent her from getting seriously ill by some of the most common feline diseases.

You might be thinking that your house cat lives a sheltered life and would never come in contact with any illnesses, but the fact is that you can bring viruses and bacteria in on your shoes and clothes, and your dog or other critters that go outside can also bring them in, Dr. Bonk told The Dodo. So, even if your cat never goes outside, they arent fully protected without proper vaccinations.

Free Pet Vaccines Available At Animal Services Thanks To Petco Love

Petco Love donated 600 vaccines for cats and dogs to be administered by the end of the month.

Pasco County Animal Services is offering residents the opportunity to vaccinate their cats and dogs free of charge after receiving a donation of doses from Petco Love.

The vaccines are for distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza and parvovirus in dogs and feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia in cats. PCAS Director Mike Shumate said he hopes to vaccinate 600 cats and dogs by the end of November. Appointments are available each Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at Pasco County Animal Services, Adoption Center , 19640 Dogpatch Lane, Land O Lakes.

PCAS will be closed Nov. 11 in observation of Veterans Day, and it will resume appointments for the following week. Keep an eye open for Saturday appointments, as PCAS might decide to open one day for working residents unable to come during the work week.

This is part of a national program and a big incentive Petco Love wanted to do to help local communities with pet health, Shumate said. They basically offered these free vaccines to any shelter organization that wanted to come on board with them. Its just for personal pets.

Getting your pet vaccinated with DAPPV or FVRCP is an important step in your pets protection from deadly disease. Shumate said its especially important to make sure your cat or dog is vaccinated if they are around other pets, even if they are an adult.
