What Is The Rarest Siamese Cat

Lilac and Blue Point with Lynx, Siamese and Balinese kittens

Out of the four CFA standard colors mentioned previously, the lilac point is already considered rare.

However, Siamese cats now come in many other colors accepted by other registries. One of these rare colors is the flame point Siamese cat.

From the name itself, they have white coats with reddish or orange fur points. They are also called red points in some places.

Flame point Siameses are quite rare, and not all registries accept them as Siamese. The CFA categorizes them in the Colorpoint Shorthair breed.

They Are Hard To Train

While theyre incredibly intelligent, Siamese cats will not be trained. They are known for believing they are superior to everyone else in the family, which shows. So, while its possible to leash train your Siamese or teach her to play fetch, they wont do it if they arent interested in learning it. These cats do what they want when they want.

Are Siamese Good Pets

Yes, Siamese are great pets and Im not being biased.

They are one of the most lovable and loyal cat breeds there is. They enjoy nothing more than hanging out with their human companions and arent quiet about it either.

If you socialize them from kittens, they are known to get on well with other pets even cats and kids. If you have a busy and chaotic household, dont worry, theyll fit right in.

At the same time, if you just look forward to relaxing in front of the TV with a cat, theyll be right there beside you.

Are Lynx Points Outdoor Cats

Lynx Points are very curious. They are easily distracted, so much so that they can actually wander off and possibly forget where they came from.

Some owners feel that this makes them a little unpredictable when they are left unattended outdoors. This is especially true for cats that arent all that used to outdoor activity or being alone.

Its strongly suggested that you supervise a Lynx Point Siamese when it is exploring the outdoor area.

How Much Do Siamese Cats Cost

If you cant find any breeders with litters due in your area, you can help an adult Siamese by adopting and rehoming a cat in need.

There are various shelters and rescue centers across the US, I recommend doing a little research and saving an older cat from a life in a shelter.

You will generally pay a lot less for an adult Siamese than a kitten, especially if youre adopting from a rescue shelter.

I recommend taking a look at petfinder.com. This site is one of the largest online databases that connect you with around 11,000 animal shelters across the country.

History Of The Lynx Point Siamese

The Lynx Point Siamese was created in the U.S. sometime during the 1940s or 1950s when some breeders began experimenting with color in the Siamese breed. A red tabby American shorthair was bred to a seal point Siamese and a whole new world of color opened up for the Siamese breed. These new cats looked just like Siamese in all ways but color, coming in more than the four solid traditional Siamese colors. Some also featured patterns within the color points, including lynx point and tortie point .

Some cat registries decided to recognize these cats as an entirely separate breed from the Siamese, calling the new breed the colorpoint shorthair. Other cat registries decided that these were still Siamese cats, so they adjusted the breed standard for the Siamese to include the new colors and patterns.

The colorpoint shorthair comes in 16 different colors, including solid color points , lynx point and parti-color point .

Are Lynx Point Siamese Good For Families

Talking Siamese Kitten

In general, the energetic but non-aggressive nature of the Lynx Point makes it a good fit for most families. As with most cats, though, very young children may not be the best fit unless they understand how to deal with animals.

Cats will avoid or ignore young children that play too rough or dont yet know how to handle them. Occasionally, this might result in a defensive claw or two, so take some time to ensure that both parties understand the boundaries. Mutual respect goes a long way here.

Siamese Kitten Breeders In Canada

Its easy to find Siamese kittens for sale online. While popular sites like Facebook marketplace have banned the sale of animals, there are still rehoming ads, and sites like Kijiji are full of listings from backyard breeders.

We encourage you to buy from a reputable breeder with a good reputation. These breeders will provide you with genetic testing and health backgrounds for your cats parents. They also ensure that undesirable health traits are not maintained within breeding lines to ensure the maximum health of your kitten. Particularly with purebred animals like the Siamese, its important to make sure populations dont become inbred in an effort to maintain genetic purity.

The list below will help you get started in finding a Siamese kitten breeder.

Can Lynx Point Siamese Be Left On Their Own

These cats are exceptionally social and will try to take a closer look at whatever youre doing around the house. If you spend a lot of time away from home, you may be wondering whether this is the type of cat that will do well on its own.

Siamese cats are somewhat prone to separation anxiety, despite being independent-minded. In most cases, they should be ok for a while so going out for an evening or daytime appointment should not be a problem.

Leaving your cat alone for more than eight hours at a time may cause some anxiety, however. If you work away from home and routinely spend most of the day out, it may be a good idea to adopt two cats or reconsider adopting at all.

A siamese, in particular, may suffer a lot of stress from being on its own for such a long time.

Notes On Tabby Markings

Tabby cats get their markings from the presence of the agouti gene, in conjunction with other genes that give a tabby either a striped, spotted or mottled pattern.

The particular gene responsible for producing the striped coat pattern is called the mackerel gene, presumably because it gives a cat mackerel-like stripes.

It also gives the striped tabby a distinctive M-shaped marking on his forehead, which you can also see on the wild European lynx, below.

History And Origin Of Lilac Point Siamese Cats

Seal Point Siamese Kittens For Sale Near Me

Since the lilac point Siamese is not a separate breed from the Siamese cats we know, their history and origin do not really differ from each other.

The Siamese is one of the oldest cat breeds. They originated from Thailand, formerly known as Siam, and were said to be often found in royal households and temples.

Siamese cats were first brought to Europe and the United States in the late 1800s. The breed made its debut in the Crystal Palace Cat Show in London.

It soon became popular and became a foundation of other cat breeds like the Balinese, Oriental, Ocicat, and Tonkinese.

When lilac point Siamese cats first appeared in shows, they were considered poor quality or poorly bred versions of the blue and chocolate points. They were even called freaky cats because of their appearance.

Thankfully, things turned around and the lilac point eventually gained popularity. They were the last to be officially recognized as a color type.

In the US, the color was accepted in official Siamese breed standards in 1955, and Britain followed five years later.

Are Lilac Point Siamese Cats Rare

The lilac point and blue point Siamese are considered rarer variations. As mentioned before, the lilac point is a dilute chocolate point. They are rare because of the genetic combinations needed to produce the lilac color.

The chocolate point color is produced by a recessive brown gene which both parents must have. The gene for dilution is also recessive.

To produce the lilac color, the kitten must inherit both brown and dilute genes from two parents.

What Is A Lynx Point Siamese Cat

The first reported Lynx Siamese was noted in the 1940s. It took some time for them to become known, though. Their popularity took a bump in the 1960s.

Classified as a Siamese, the Lynx Point is a laid-back, very relaxed cat that displays lovely patterns and colors, bright eyes, and a friendly personality. Its origins were reportedly the result of a strange breeding accident, and therefore a genetic mistake.

The cat came about as a result of a crossbreed between a Seal Point Siamese cat and a tabby. This accounts for their beautiful and unusual coat. The cats personality is also a happy accident, being gentle and quiet by nature.

This accidental origin has unfortunately meant that there is technically no such thing as a Lynx Point Siamese. The American Cat Fanciers Association prefers to call the cat a Lynx Colorpoint Shorthair.

Other organizations like The Government Council of the Cat Fancy refer to them as Tabby Point Siamese.

Whatever the case, they certainly differ from traditional Siamese by personality the Siamese is known to be somewhat combative at times. Lynx Points are a lot calmer and therefore rank high on the desirable scale. Its the tabby in them.

Are Lynx Point Siamese Aggressive

Yes and No! Lynx point Siamese cats, bond well with their humans. They love the spotlight and enjoy the attention of their family. However, they tend to have a dominant personality and occasionally dominate other pets.

Despite being extremely friendly, they are quick at picking up the danger. If they feel threatened or caged in any way, they tend to get aggressive and attack.

Are Lynx Point Siamese Cats Hypoallergenic

Siamese Cats and Kittens for sale

The Lynx Point Siamese cat can be a terrific choice if you want a hypoallergenic cat. Their fur is short and they shed less.

There is no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic cat. The Lynx Point Siamese, in particular, may lose a few hairs after touching and cuddling. However, they shed less than other cats with long coats such as Persian cats, Ragdoll cats, and Maine Coons.

Siamese cats generate less Fel D1 protein than other cat breeds. It is why they are famous for being hypoallergenic.

Fel D1 is a protein in cats skin, urine, and saliva. If this protein is abundant, it might induce moderate to severe allergic responses. Yes, its this protein, rather than the cats fur, that causes allergic reactions!

Breeders have attempted but failed to create a cat breed that does not generate Fel D1.

If you want to own a cat that is less likely to cause allergies, you may pick the Lynx Point Siamese. Along with the Lynx Point Siamese cats, the Javanese, Sphynx, and Cornish Rex are cats that shed the least.

How Much Does A Siamese Kitten Cost

A Siamese kitten can cost anywhere from $200 to $1,000. Adult purebreds will often cost more than $1,000 if they are specifically bred for show purposes.

Several factors will impact the cost of your Siamese kitten, such as its coat color, purebred status, and age. This fact explains the wide range for Siamese kitten cost. Individual breeders will also affect the price. Purchasing your Siamese kitten from a rescue center will be more affordable than contacting a breeder.

In addition to the cat itself, remember that you will need to buy day one essentials, such as cat food, medicine, a collar, and more. Although the breeder or rescue may provide some of these items, you will likely need to buy things on your own too.

Lilac Point Siamese Cat Appearance: What Does A Lilac Point Siamese Look Like

Lilac point Siamese cats have the same features as the other variations except for their color. This breed is known for its long, lean bodies and tall ears.

They also have a soft short coat and almond-shaped blue eyes. Breed standards describe the lilac points eyes as deep vivid blue, but some say that their eyes are a pale, china blue than other variations.

Siamese cats come in two types: the traditional or applehead. The latter is characterized by their round or apple-shaped heads, hence the name.

Over the years, breeders wanted to emphasize the long and angular features of Siamese cats.

Because of this, modern Siamese cats have a more triangular wedge-shaped head. Nowadays, lilac point Siamese cats can come in both types.

The CFA standards describe the coats of lilac points as glacial white. Some enthusiasts describe them as magnolia or light cream.

Their points are not exactly lilac, but frosty or light grey with pinkish tones. Their nose and paw pads are lavender-pink.

The point coloration is caused by a temperature-sensitive enzyme that affects pigment production. Therefore, their body color would also depend on the temperature surrounding them.

This is also why lilac point kittens are born completely white. The warmth of their mothers womb inhibits the production of pigment. The color of lilac points will usually start to show at four weeks.
