Do Sphynx Cats Make Good Family Pets
Despite being fairly rare, Sphynx cats actually make excellent family pets.
They are known for having extroverted personalities and this is one of their best features. Theyre curious, , loving, and very social.
In fact, the busier your family home, the happier a Sphynx is likely to be.
To address the most obvious characteristic of a Sphynx they have no fur. This means they do have some different care needs from other cats.
Theyre not outdoor cats, lets get that straight. Sphynxs have delicate skin and are prone to sunburn, just as they will easily get too cold and do not appreciate a cold wind chill.
Youll notice they spend time where they can get some warmth around the home. If you cant keep your home somewhere around 70 degrees F , then you may need to put some clothes on them.
Its certainly not uncommon to see a Sphynx snuggled up in blankets or wearing a sweater in the winter months and who can blame them, theyre essentially naked!
If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns, you should always make a note of them and ask the breeder youre purchasing a kitten from what they advise.
Please keep in mind that any breed characteristics are general. Every cat has its own unique personality thats one of the things thats so lovable about cats!

Located on a small farm in western Kentucky, the Evermead Siamese and Balinese cattery breed classic Siamese and Balinese kittens. Theyre passionate about following the old-style Siamese standards, and their felines typically have heart-shaped faces and slender bodies. All their kittens and cats are registered with TICA, CFA, and CFF. To protect the health of their felines, they do not allow visitors to the cattery. However, they send photos and offer live chat sessions so you can see the cats in real-time.

Average Cost Of A Munchkin Kittens
Its always hard to give out an average cost of exotic or rare breeds of cats as there are a lot of factors that affect the price.
To give you a rough example, you can expect to pay between $800-$2,000 for a Munchkin kitty. But dont be surprised to see a few thousand added on for a pedigree or rare color Munchkin though.
Its a good idea to reach out to a couple of breeders in your area to get a better idea of price.
Caring For Munchkins And Maintenance
Some rare and exotic breeds of cat are high-maintenance or require a higher level of care than regular cats. Not munchkins.
These short-legged cats have short coats, so a little light brushing is all thats required from owners. They also arent as agile as other cats, so theres less risk of getting injured or causing mischief getting places they shouldnt.
They obviously look pretty fragile, but there is nothing to worry about. As long as you make your home Munchkin-friendly and provide them with toys and cat furniture they can make good use of theyll be happy.
The main difference from other breeds apart from the obvious physical differences is that they love to play. Make sure you have plenty of cat toys, and also spend plenty of time hanging out with them as they love affection from humans.

Tips For Choosing A Breeder Or Cattery To Adopt From
Its a huge decision and lifestyle choice to adopt a new kitten and its an even bigger deal when youre paying a lot of money for a rare breed like a Sphynx.
Therefore its important you do your due diligence when considering a breeder to ensure you get a healthy kitten.
The first thing to check is that the breeder is registered with either The International Cat Association or The Cat Fanciers Association .
Its not a deal-breaker if theyre not, but these two organizations are dedicated to preserving rare breeds and helping breeders to operate ethically.
When youve found a breeder near you youre happy to work with, some of the questions I recommend asking at a minimum are:
Can you visit your kitten? You will want to visit your kitten, thats normal. With all the lockdown restrictions and other covid-related issues, its not always possible.
Any breeder should be willing to do some live facetime sessions, or Skype, Zoom, whatever is your preferred method at the very least.
Questionnaires and contracts Buying a Sphynx is expensive, and good breeders always want to see their kittens go to good homes.
You will likely be asked to fill out a questionnaire before you can be considered for adopting a kitten.
There will also be a contract detailing all the important terms and conditions of the deal. Read all the documents carefully.
Vaccinations Check which vaccinations the breeder will be giving your kitten, and which youre responsible for.

How Much Do Sphynx Cats Cost
Its difficult to give you an exact price as the cost of a Sphynx cat will vary quite a lot depending on the breeder, history, type, and some other factors.
To give you a general idea, however, I took a look at several breeders across the US and the cost of a Sphynx was in the $1,500-$4,000 range.
Its specific cross breeds like Bambinos, Bambobs, Minskins that can have much higher price tags.
Be prepared to put down a sizable non-refundable deposit when reserving a kitten. This is normal, and its only fair as breeders need to cover their costs and the risk of people changing their minds.

They are good family pets, yes. Obviously, each Munchkin has its own personality that you will need to discover. But generally speaking, Munchkins are social cats, they are fine with children and other animals, and will take advantage of all of that attention,
Youll notice theyre very different from other cats, theres no mistaking that. They are a lot less agile and wont be getting themselves into the kinds of annoying predicaments most kittens do.
On the plus side, this means not hanging off of curtains, jumping on the kitchen sides, hiding in odd high up places, and so on. So, its not all bad!
