Never Feed Hot Chicken Broth

Making Bone Broth for Cats & Dogs

You should never serve chicken broth hot because your furry friend can burn her mouth. Unfortunately, cats arent always aware of the hot food, so theyll rush to try the delicious broth and suffer the consequences. You have to let the chicken broth cool down and then serve it to the cats. Otherwise, youll have another issue to deal with.

The Honest Kitchen Turkey & Ginger Bone Broth Ingredient List:

Dehydrated turkey broth, dehydrated turkey, dehydrated lentils, dehydrated kale, ginger.

The first two ingredients of The Honest Kitchen Bone Broth are excellent dehydrated turkey broth and turkey retain their nutrient composition and provide the benefits of a regular bone broth.

The next two will look a little questionable to any cat guardian feeding their cat a meat-only diet. While cats are obligate carnivores and should be fed a primarily meat-based diet, the dehydrated lentils and kale can provide beneficial vitamins and minerals. Since the bone broth is a dietary supplement and not your cats main source of nutrition, these ingredients are unlikely to do any harm.

Finally, the recipe wraps up with ginger. Ginger is well known for its power to soothe the digestive tract and can be a great healing addition to your cats diet. Ginger is a safe way to help with nausea, digestive issues, and travel sickness.

Unlike most prepackaged human bone broths, The Honest Kitchen Bone Broth is free from ingredients which are harmful to cats, like onions and excessive salt.

Bone Broth For Cats With Uti

Healthy Bone Broth For Cats & Dogs

In addition to managing pH levels and strengthening the bladder wall, keeping your cat hydrated is a vital aspect of treating urinary tract infection in a cat. This aids in flushing the bladder and prevents dangerous bacteria from accumulating.

Bone broth provides critical hydration needed by cats with UTI and also contains nutrients and minerals that can assist in the battle against infections. Additionally, amino acids in bone broth such as glycine and arginine, have been demonstrated to alleviate inflammation.

Improve Your Immune System

A single bowl of bone broth has such a high concentration of minerals that it can help stave off both colds and the flu. Our grandparents instinctively knew what it took to get well again when they were feeling under the weather but perhaps they didnt know it was the bone content in the chicken soup performing the magic behind the scenes.

Either way, science proves that bone broth strengthens our immune systems, we only need to eat it to believe it.

Each Meal Should Be In The Right Amount

It is necessary for each of the meals to be distributed in an appropriate amount. This is necessary because every kitten has a different size, comes from a different breed, then has a different weight, and therefore it is necessary to give adequately from food in order to avoid side effects such as obesity or the accumulation of fat deposits that are not good for cats at all. Therefore, distribute the food properly throughout the day so that your pet is always full and has always received a little of all the nutrients found in the food.

When you already want to have a pet, that is, when you already have a pet, try to always give him only the best and always be healthy and happy. Bone broth is just one of the things that can help your pet to be always healthy, smiling, and developing properly, so it is important to include it in the daily diet menu and to dose it properly in order to have a pet that will be above all happy and healthy, but will also be very grateful for the care you provide.

    Considerations For Serving Chicken Broth

How To Make Bone Broth For Cats * S4 E92 * Homemade Bone Broth Recipe

In general, you simply pour chicken broth into your cats water bowl to serve. It really is as simple as that! Alternatively, you can mix a little broth with dry kibble to make soft dry cat food that is easier for some cats to eat.

Whichever way you choose you should be careful with the limits. One to two tablespoons per day is enough for young cats and kittens, whereas adult cats can have more.

There are also a few other considerations to bear in mind:

    • Temperature: I have already discussed that cats could get a tongue burn if you serve them hot broth, so you have to wait for the broth to cool down before serving it. The best thing about this nutritious liquid is that you can cook large amounts and freeze it. This means you wont have to wait for the chicken broth to cool down each time. Simply take some chicken broth ice cubes from the freezer, put them in your cats water bowl, and let them melt.
    • Kittens: Young kittens nursing on their mom shouldnt be fed chicken broth. But when do kittens start eating food and drinking water? This happens around four weeks of age, but you should hold off feeding your kitten chicken broth until it is properly weaned. You can also call your vet and find out when its safe to treat your kitten to your homemade broth.

Will A Plain Vegetable Broth Be A Good Snack For My Cat

Cats are obligate carnivores who cannot thrive on or particularly enjoy vegan food. The chances of a meat-free vegetable broth being approved by your cat are low. Some cats may accept it, while fussy ones will let out a displeased miaow and walk away.

You should always add some meat to the dish to keep it palatable and add nutritional value. Make sure to cook the veggies well to break down the cellulose content, which is otherwise indigestible to cats.

Some cat parents occasionally add fruits, like strawberries, bananas, or melons, to their felines diet. Even though the specified fruit is not bad for your kitty, it adds little to nothing to their nutritional needs.

    Easy Bone Broth For Cats

    • Not a substitute for professional veterinary help.

Restorative and nutritious, bone broth is a go-to for people wanting a vitamin-rich addition to their diet. So, when I walked into my local pet store and spotted a haul of lamb bones from a local butcher, I knew I wanted to offer the collagen-rich goodness with my cats.

Bone broth can be a restorative source of nourishment for humans, but experts say the nutritional benefits of bone broth for pets is still up for debate. According to DVM360, although bone broth may provide a bioavailable source of minerals and nitrogen, whether this provides benefits to pets eating complete and balanced diets is questionable.

Even so, many pet parents agree that pets can benefit from being offered bone broth as an occasional treat, meal topper, or mix in. Heres a recipe I developed to feed to my own cats.

    • Optional: Cat-safe veggies such as 1 to 2 stalks of celery and 1 to 2 carrots

    How To Cook Chicken Broth

I have already highlighted the importance of only feeding your cat homemade chicken broth instead of store-bought chicken broth for cats. Unfortunately, bone broth takes a while to prepare. Thankfully, youre a dedicated pet parent, and youll do anything beneficial for your cat!

So here are the steps to preparing a safe, homemade, feline-approved broth for your cat to enjoy. Remember, chicken broth can be frozen and wont lose any of its nutritional value! If you have space in your freezer, I recommend cooking a huge batch of chicken broth and freezing it in ice cube trays.

This means you will only have to repeat this cooking process every few months:

  • Get a large pot and fill it with clean drinking water.
  • Add raw or cooked chicken bones to the pot of water and turn the stove on. Alternatively, you can opt for beef or turkey bones theyre all beneficial for the cat. You can also leave the meat on the bones or even boil an entire chicken.
  • Make sure that the water covered the bones completely. If it doesnt, add more water to the pot until the bones and meat are fully submerged in the liquid.
  • Add two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar per gallon of water to the pot. This ingredient will break the bones down and make them release even more nutrients. You can also use lemon juice. Thankfully, the cats wont even notice the smell or taste of the vinegar once the broth is done, and both these ingredients are safe for cats.

Is Bone Broth Good For Cats With Kidney Disease

There is limited research on the impact of bone broth on cats with kidney disease, but the general consensus is that it may be beneficial. There is some evidence that bone broth may help improve renal function in cats with kidney disease, and it may also help reduce the severity of the disease.

However, more research is needed to confirm these benefits.

    Added Proteins & Amino Acids

Cats are carnivores and need protein and amino acids to survive. One of the most significant benefits of this broth is that your cat will get more collagen, glycine, and conjugated linoleic acid. These are a selection of proteins and amino acids, all of which all essential nutrients that will boost its health.

    • Glycine: Glycine is a nutrient essential for proper digestion as it stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid. This acid aids your cat in breaking down the food and makes the entire process much easier. Glycine also promotes joint health, which is particularly beneficial for adult and elderly cats with joint issues. Moreover, this substance is connected to promoting liver health, meaning that its a multi-tasking ingredient every cat should have.
    • Collagen: Collagen is as vital for felines as it is for people. Its a part of many tissues, including muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons. It is also the primary protein in the membrane of every cell in your cats body! Therefore, collagen has wide-ranging benefits and promotes muscle, skin, fur, digestive, and joint health.
    • Conjugated Linoleic Acid: CLA or conjugated linoleic acid can boost the cats immune system and help it fight off different conditions. This doesnt mean your cat will never get sick again, but it does reduce the risk and make it easier for your cat to recover from illness. CLA is particularly beneficial for cats with weakened immune systems.
